Ladies and Gentlemen,
I came across an article where Aldous Huxley congratulated George Orwell on his book 1984 in which he gave the following prediction.
"On 21 October 1949 Huxley wrote to George Orwell, author of Nineteen Eighty-Four, congratulating Orwell on "how fine and how profoundly important the book is". His letter to Orwell contained the prediction that: "Within the next generation I believe that the world's leaders will discover that infant conditioning and narco-hypnosis are more efficient, as instruments of government, than clubs and prisons, and that the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience".(p. 605:quotes Aldous Huxley re Huxley's opinions in 1949 about the technologies to be employed by governments)"
In looking at Singapore today, Huxley is entirely correct. With high salaries corruption and perks, Lee Kuan Yew has managed to make his Singapore establishment elite "love their servitude" and do anything for him. He has managed to buy them with money. No need to use "clubs and prisons" on them to make them submit.
As for the school children in Singapore, Huxley was again spot on right. Children are encouraged to obey their teachers, Confucianism and a whole load of bull, shoved down their throats during their impressionable years. After which, you get the Singapore population of today, obedient, fearful and submissive.
The type that willingly arrested Chee Siok Chin and John Tan for no rhyme or reason at Shangri La Hotel on Nov 20, 2007.
Huxley's prediction was entirely right. Look at Singapore of 2007.
