Ladies and Gentlemen,
You know of the comedy that went on just recently for 4 days, from Sept 20, 2010 to Sept 24, 2010, the Disciplinary Proceedings to find me guilty of unprofessional conduct for, among other things, criticizing Lee Kuan Yew's judge Belinda Ang Saw Ean, on, believe it or not, more than 2 years ago, May 29, 2008!
It took them way more than a year even to charge me with anything, and mind you, after I had left the island of Singapore permanently, with no possibility of ever returning! Remember I am banned.
So you could very nicely say, they are taking their time indeed. And even now, they don't seem to be in any particular hurry. The Disciplinary proceedings had gone on in Singapore without me, since they were in effect preparing to arrest me again if I ever stepped foot there.
I can tell you that this sort of legal procedure that Lee Kuan Yew adopts in his Singapore is really something! This is how it is done, Singapore style. First you charge him in Singapore, while he himself is out of the country. Then you commence disciplinary proceedings against him with various charges, while he remains abroad. At the same time you make it clear that if he ever steps foot in Singapore he will be arrested, that way making sure he won't be there. Then you proceed against him in his absence and proclaim your victory. This is what is known as Singaporean Justice Lee Kuan Yew style.
Another way to put it is like this. You put the Defendant in a boxing ring. You tie both his hands. Then you knock him out and proclaim yourself winner.
You can see why I did not go to Singapore. You can also see why the Disciplinary Council in my absence has found me the most dishonorable lawyer that ever lived. They have not said so, so far, but we can expect them to do so, sooner or later.
And the other thing very unusual of this sort of Singaporean justice is the long delay, very long delay, they seem to take. Remember the principle offense that I allegedly committed was way back in May 2008. Why does it take them 2 years to do anything about it? And now, today being the 30th of September 2010, why have they said nothing about the proceedings against me that concluded on Sept 24, 2010! Had I committed any wrong doing in California, the State Bar would have filed charges against me the very next day.
I tell you why the Singaporean Law Society takes their time. It is because they are in a quandary. Perhaps they thought I was going to take their abuse lying down. But when I made clear that I had no such intention and began documenting their every move for the world to see in this blog, they realize they have made a mistake. They failed to consider, despite Lee Kuan Yew's claim to have an over the horizon radar of understanding, that today is not 1959. I have the Internet now. And they would have to cope with that whether they like it or not.
So, having got their knickers in a twist, their only hope seems to be to drag this over a long period of time, a very long period of time during which time they reckon perhaps that the memory of the whole thing might have faded in the public mind; after which they would come out with their disbarment. Which would satisfy me, because at any time of their choosing, I too would come out with my response for the world to judge.
Carry on, take your time, it suits me fine either way. But this blog would continue reminding you of Law Society of Singapore vs Gopalan Nair and about Lee Kuan Yew's judge Belinda Ang Saw Ean and how she prostituted her judicial office to please her master Lee Kuan Yew.

Singapore's Lee Kuan Yew hospitalized and the entire island feels the jitters
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Singapore's state controlled newspaper the Straits Times Online edition of Sept 30, 2010 carried the story "MM Lee hospitalized", meaning Singapore's Minister Mentor and dictator Lee Kuan Yew has been hospitalized.
The report refers to chest infection as the cause which prevented him from attending the funeral of one of his minions Dr. Balaji Sadasivan who had died of colon cancer.
Lee only 2 days ago had physiotherapy resulting from a fall in Kiev where he was giving an interview.
Readers would recall an island wide nervousness resulting from my blog post of Saturday, March 6, 2010(Update: March 07, 2010, this is a hoax) Singapore strongman 87 year old Lee Kuan Yew suffers massive heart attack in which I deliberately and falsely wrote he had a severe heart attack.
My writing then caused people not only in Singapore but worldwide extreme nervousness of the consequences.
My point in writing it then was to prove that very point, which is, Singapore despite it's proclamations of a democracy is in fact a delicate flimsy one party state dictatorship in which everything happens because of this one man, and that his death would have monumental and devastating consequences in the island making the Indonesian tsunami a mere hiccup.
I guess this nervousness and fear of the unknown among Singaporeans has now begun for real, with the dictator having been reported to have been treated for a fall 2 days ago in Eastern Europe and yesterday, a severe chest infection.
With these dire reports, the people can reasonably fear only one thing, the man is going to kick the bucket very soon, and the unthinkable happening.
And with that fear gripping the entire Singapore and the western capitals of the world, can I ask now the following very pertinent questions?
Is the stock market in Singapore falling or will it fall very soon?
Will the foreign investors who have put their money in the island because of the old dictator pull out of Singapore now?
Is his son whom he placed as Prime Minister whom no one respects let alone himself going to be re-visited with the cancer which had plagued him in the past and die himself?
Is Dr. Chee Soon Juan and his opposition Singapore Democratic Party doubling up their efforts to ready themselves for a multi cornered political fight with other aspirants?
Are even more Singaporeans now cashing out and leaving the island permanently rather than to wait until the Singapore dollar loses all value?
Is Judge Belinda Ang Saw Ean who so confidently abused the law to punish her master's opponent now having second thoughts about the whole thing and packing out of Singapore and herself entirely?
Yes many of the fears that I mentioned are about to happen regardless of whether the dictator dies today or tomorrow. You see, with these 2 incidents only a couple of days apart, anyone with normal caution will see the danger of waiting any longer.
I am sure that with his death, the Singapore dollar will take a dive. That means a loss for a great many people who hold that currency. Common sense dictates that waiting till the last minute, which is obviously fast approaching is suicidal.
Another thing which both local and foreign governments are aware is this, his son as Prime minister is really not up to it. And I am sure the son knows it too.
This means there is bound to be infighting for a new team which commands some respect. But the problem is that it cannot happen in Singapore because Lee Kuan Yew himself made it impossible.
Singapore's leaders today are not leaders in the real sense but purely handpicked bootlickers that he has placed in power with million dollar salaries. Take the example of K Shanmugam his recently appointed Tamil Minister of Law. Does anyone consider him a leader of anyone or anything, I don't think so. He knows that as well as we all do which is, he is there because he was prepared to be the master's errand boy. It is the same with every one of these Lee Kuan Yew ministers.
What is even more disgusting and dishonest is the fact that these Ministers were not appointed by a mistake. No, they were appointed by design, because Lee Kuan Yew knows that such nobodys picked out of thin air cannot ever be threats to his power, because if he allowed real leaders to develop, then his own position might be uncertain, especially because he may not be able to steal the millions which he does from Singaporeans now.
The best way to describe Lee Kuan Yew is a dishonest corrupt power hungry third world dictator who managed to create a political system that would ensure his own survival and that of his family. He deliberately ensures that the system would not outlast him. That is why either today or tomorrow when Lee Kuan Yew dies there is going to be utter confusion mayhem and disorder in the island.
If you are wise, get out now. Get out with your money, your families and the hope which you still have.
In 1933 when Hitler came to power in the Reichstag, there were those who saw the writing on the wall and left. I need not say what happened to those who were left behind especially the Jews in Hitler's Third Reich. What is going to happen in Singapore is complete disorder and collapse.
By the way, I wonder what the recently appointed judge Quentin Loh Sze Onn is thinking now. Only a month ago, he entered the Singapore judiciary, hand picked by Lee Kuan Yew and his minions, all prepared to spend his remaining long career pleasing his master and his master's son. I hope he is reading this blog now.

Singapore's motley haphazard bunch of people.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Although Singapore's population until recently consisted mainly of immigrants together with the pre-existing Malay community, after half a century we could say it was indeed a country, a multi racial country.
The races in Singapore were sufficiently bonded, the people had an undeniable character which you could say was distinctly Singaporean.
Today it is different. Millions of foreigners from Communist China and the neighbouring countries are being flooded into Singapore which naturally upsets the Singaporean character as we know it.
From the very basics, even the interaction between a foreigner and a minority Singaporean (minority in his own country now) becomes uncertain, because neither of them knows what to expect of the other. Will they take offense to certain things we say, to our practices? How is anyone to know the reaction of these foreigners in daily situations and a general uncertainty prevails in social intercourse in daily life.
One manifestation of this can be found in the local newspapers. There has never been so much crime as there is now, with daily muggings, robberies and fraud, not to mention murder which seems to happen more frequently now than ever before. And usually you can tell these crimes are committed by recently admitted Communist Chinese nationals by their jointed Chinese names such as Wi Leijen whereas a local Singaporean would be Wee Lee Jeng.
This increase in crime by Chinese nationals may be because crime in Communist China is more frequent than in Singapore, or because criminals are treated less harshly or some other reason which no Singaporean would know unless he is an expert on China. But when you bring them in indiscriminately, not knowing their way of life, this is what you get; a complete upsetting of your way of life as you have always known it.
You can say the same of the recently arrived Burmese Singaporeans, the Indian Singaporeans and every other recently arrived foreigner in the already crowded small island of Singapore.
It is one thing to bring immigrants to a large country with a large population like the USA. Immigrants there are absorbed into the mainstream population and adapt to it. But in Singapore where the locals are already a fast diminishing minority, the Singaporean national identity simply cannot survive. It will be dead if not already and what takes it's place is the Communist Chinese character.
I am not sure about you, but this is not what I want of Singapore. A Singaporean identity would have been far superior to that of a Communist Chinese one, especially that of rural Chinese outlying areas from where most immigrants come, mostly of peasant stock.
And to make things worse, unhappy Singaporeans leave the island in increasing numbers which in turn increases the foreign Singapore population proportion even further.
With Lee Kuan Yew's determination not to provide any welfare of any sort in his belief that it will encourage a crutch mentality, most of these recent immigrants would not want to settle in the country, since they would be devastated if unemployed. In Singapore if you are unemployed, you either starve and die, or you are cared for by relatives, or you are locked up in an institution. This is what you get for being poor.
Already you can see this in the plight of the old and tottering folk who clean tables at food centers, who stand out as dire reminders as to what will happen to you in your old age if you are poor. Such a sight alone should discourage any foreigner who has a choice not to sink roots in the island.
What happens then is for people to be transitory. They reckon, it may be a better place than their native Communist China to make a few bucks while the going is good. If not, pack up and leave, while someone else comes for a while. With this sort of community you end up with an entire island of people almost like hotel guests. They stay a while and then leave while others take their places.
Another country that is somewhat like this is Dubai, a good place to do business or work. But the question is how many people call it home, not many. But there is one difference between the two. Dubai has oil money, limitless quantities of it, while Singapore has none. It is questionable how long this island with a fast diminishing population who are committed and loyal can stay afloat.
We are confronted with a daily litany of good news in the Singapore press but good news alone never saved a country, that much we should know. With a fast dying out breed of Singaporean being replaced wholesale by a motley haphazard group of people from who knows where, I don't see any hope. Do you?
Looking into the crystal ball, I see the government increasingly struggling with all sorts of unexpected problems, with native Singaporeans leaving and being replaced by second rate foreigners. As it is today, spending some time at the Changi airport businesses is like watching the former British TV comedy program "Mind your language" in a class room in London where foreign students were learning English. No one seemed to know what in Heavens anyone else was saying. Just like in "Mind Your Language" I have been told, in the airport restaurant, if you ordered Chicken, the Chinese waitress would probably give you pork liver! I guess, if you are going there for some fun, it is all right.
You will see more resignations from the Civil Service resulting in even poorer quality workers, poorly qualified policemen with mounting resignations, the armed forces understaffed because of insufficient young Singaporeans, increased crime rate, mounting suicides out of helplessness and desperation, lawyers doctors and every other professional will be a foreigner, newspaper reporters who cannot even write as well as a high school newsletter. It simply cannot go on like this.

Get out of Singapore if you can.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
In Lee Kuan Yew's Singapore the long established doctrine of the dictatorship has been to destroy any government critic completely, I mean completely. This means if you are a professional, your career is destroyed; if you are an employee, you are kicked out from your job, and if you are anyone anywhere, not only you but your entire family is disadvantaged.
Although I have come to know members of the Singapore Democratic Party over the years, let me give you some examples taken only from press reports and the Singapore Democrat newspaper of the Singapore Democratic Party.
Dr. Chee, the Secretary General of the Party, a neurosurgeon by training, and formerly professor at Singapore University was dismissed from his employment, jailed and bankrupted. For several decades now he has been unable to practice his profession or his academic experience, and as a result of the various punishments which are ongoing, not only he but his entire family continues to suffer.
Gandhi Ambalam was a former Singapore journalist. Once he began to resist the dictatorship, he was dismissed from his job and unable to exercise his profession for decades. Today he lives in semi retirement and works full time for the Singapore Democratic Party.
John Tan was a professor at James Cook University. Under pressure from the dictatorship he was terminated from his job and now works full time for the Singapore Democratic Party. Of course his family suffers too from this punishment. He too is effectively retired from his profession of Sociology or Psychology, I cannot remember which.
Then you have Seelan Pallay, an activist. Although immensely capable, he appears to work free lance as a film maker. I am not sure if he has a full time job, which I doubt. And the same with Martyn See another filmmaker who is punished because of his open opposition connections.
About a decade ago, Tang Liang Hong a successful lawyer in Singapore fled for Australia with his life having been bankrupted in an sum over several millions because he opposed Lee Kuan Yew. The same with the late JB Jeyaretnam and several more other Lee Kuan Yew political opponents.
Teo Soh Lung a former lawyer who was arrested and tortured by Lee Kuan Yew appears to have retired apparently under immense and non stop harassment by the authorities.
By now the message is written clearly and indelibly on the wall. Oppose Lee and he will destroy you, not only your family and livelihood, he will destroy everything. So the question is whether in these circumstances, should political opponents with a good future continue in this fight in Singapore.
I have wrestled with this question myself over several years before leaving Singapore in 1991 and now 19 years have gone by. And the more I think about it, the more I feel that leaving was the correct thing to do.
Had I remained in Singapore, I would have been disbarred. I am going to be disbarred in Singapore anyway but that does not effect me in any way now, since I am an American lawyer. But had I remained in Singapore, the very profession that I worked so hard for would have slipped away under my feet. Not just that, my children would have been punished, one because their minds would have been brainwashed by the system and in every other way possible.
Of course those remaining behind in Singapore such as Dr. Chee and others have to be admired for their courage and selflessness. But the question is, with all the factors considered, is it worthwhile? Is it worthwhile for Dr. Chee to practically throw away the practice of his profession for which he worked so hard? Is it worthwhile for Dr. Chee to punish his family members and children for the just cause he so passionately believes in? And lastly had he left Singapore like I did with his family, could he still not fight for the Singapore cause from outside Singapore?
Remember, those who can see the injustice of Lee Kuan Yew's system I believe is more than 70% of the island's population. In this group there are the educated and discerning Singaporeans. Although they may know that things are wrong, they lack the courage to stand up to the bully. Instead of standing up and openly fighting, they merely withdraw into obscurity or emigrate to other countries if they can.
Out of this group, perhaps 1% are those like Dr. Chee who openly stand up and challenge the system, despite knowing the dangers that will invariably befall them. These are the most highly educated and professional class, the very best among Singaporeans, a group which the government needs the most as leaders. If they persist in challenging Lee Kuan Yew, they are turned into Dr. Chee Soon Juans or like myself Gopalan Nairs. Few stay behind like Dr. Chee to receive non stop punishment. The vast majority leave the island permanently.
I personally think in the present circumstances, on balance, there is no real benefit gained by staying behind and being turned into Lee Kuan Yew's punching bags. I say this because of the peculiar circumstances of present day Singapore. Lee Kuan Yew's Singapore is simply going to collapse very soon, as the writing is on the wall. Humpty Dumpty has fallen and there is no putting him back. Lee Kuan Yew knows that as well as I.
Singapore's brain drain goes on unabated and very soon except for recently arrived Mandarin speaking Chinese from the remote regions of China, there would be no Singaporeans left. Such a dire hopeless condition simply cannot support an island such as Singapore. So since Singapore as we know is going to collapse anyway, what is the point of sacrificing everything, your livelihood, your family's comforts, your sense of mind, everything to fight against a regime that is in it's throes of collapse?
Singapore's fighters would be able to do the same from outside Singapore while at the same time, saving their careers and the well being of their families.
That is why looking back even today, I believe I have done the right thing. I left Singapore and am now an American citizen. But I will continue with this blog to help the cause of freedom in the island, a place that I was born and have a stake in.
Think about it.

Singapore, ratcheting up the good news
Ladies and Gentlemen,
We all know that if you control the entire media in a country, as well as all the newspapers and anything that is being said, sure you can paint a good story made out of whole cloth. The question of course is, is anyone going to believe it, given the power of the Internet which cannot be stopped, and is it going to change anything. History has shown that it is merely arranging the deck chairs while the Titanic sinks.
This is especially so, in this day of the Internet. In the past, without it, dictatorships lasted a little longer, but even then the end came sooner or later.
Singapore is disadvantaged right from the start. It is a very small overcrowded island with a small population just a few inches above the rising sea level, no more than 16 miles by 26, and a population of just 5 million, out of which an ever declining 2/3 population is native Singaporean and the other rising 1/3 foreigners who know nothing of Singapore when they came just yesterday.
And if these were factors were bad enough, out of the present 2/3 of the already small native population, emigration to other countries is mounting at the present rate of 1,000 per year, it has the lowest birth rate in the world, only higher than Macao and almost every Singaporean has lost all respect for the government and it's legal system which they feel is controlled by one family, the Lee family, who own almost everything in Singapore as well as it's people. Simply put, with a Western education, Singaporeans simply cannot reconcile with a government which is more like that in Communist China than Westminster.
Franky, even if the opposition did nothing, and I too stopped complaining in this blog, Singapore would collapse anyway within a very short while. The damage done is so great and irreversible. What I, as well as those clamouring for freedom there are doing is merely helping to precipitate that undeniable collapse.
So Singapore just as it was in the dying days of East Germany, Ceausescu's Romania and the other Eastern European countries ratchet up the "good news" in the media they control in the hope that people would be fooled into thinking otherwise. But no, the brakes have failed, the motor car is on a slide and nothing can stop it's destruction.
Today Singapore's newspapers have descended into nothing more than a newsletter of the Lee Kuan Yew family which runs Singapore. There is no independent investigative journalism to speak of and it churns out daily a string of junk which has nothing to do with the state of the country except to give it a boost.
Take the headline stories of just one day, Sept 26, 2010 in the Straits Times, online edition. "Dramatic Singapore" with a picture of the Formula one car with a driver at the wheels, tells of Singapore's staging the race. How and in what manner would the race benefit any local Singaporean is not explained!
"Best foot forward" has a picture of a Chinese woman, a handpicked Lee Kuan Yew minister herself, Lim Hwee Hua, exercising with the "usual suspects" or Lee Kuan Yew government supporters, exercising in public, with a story as to how she is going to improve the health of other Singaporeans. Looking at her own grossly overweight body in the picture, it does not explain how she herself is going to deal with her overweight problem! Perhaps that is why she is seen exercising herself!
In "Public Feedback Counts", another handpicked Lee Kuan Yew minister Liu Tuck Yew is seen in a picture shaking hands with other Singaporeans, I suspect the usual suspects who have been rounded up again for a photo opportunity. He is trying to decide whether Chinese movies should be censorship rated even further than what it is in the island. Remember in the Nanny state of Singapore even Playboy is banned.
In "Making Mandarin fun and engaging", there is a picture of someone called Teo Ser Luck in a karate pose, telling us how he is going to make Mandarin exciting. Since Singapore is already a satellite city of China, it does make sense to have more people speak it better. Never mind Malays and Indians who are left out of the equation altogether and never mind the English language itself. Why do we need it if we have Mandarin, a language that has lasted several thousands of years as Lee Kuan Yew and his son, both both Chinese themselves never fails to remind us.
In "Central CDC in $1 million drive", it talks about the government dishing out as much as $1 million in Toa Payoh, a district in Singapore. Unfortunately, as is usually the case, it does not mention how much each poor person will get or over what period of time. If we can go by these past "generosities", it is usually a sum less than $100 just once. How this small amount given once can help alleviate the poverty of the poor in Singapore is conveniently left out.
In "Million Dollar Tutors" the story talks of some private tutors making a great deal of money. Not surprising since Lee Kuan Yew and his family themselves rake in several millions of dollars and so do their friends at the top. The name for it is nepotism. And it should be obvious they can afford to pay princely sums, not to mention the money launderers from Indonesia and Russia who call Singapore their home. I have heard the Nepali Prince who came to Singapore with his children when their monarchy was overthrown not too long ago also employs very expensive tutors. How all this should gratify the average Singapore who is eking out a living in the increasingly unaffordable Singapore is of course your guess or mine.
In "Get married at Jurong" we have a picture of Tharman Shanmugaratnem, a Lee Kuan Yew minister, at Jurong Lake telling us how beautiful it is, even good enough to be married. What it doesn't say is that no one is getting married either in or out of the lake. For that matter no one is getting married in the entire island, not having any babies and in fact fleeing the Alice in Wonderland island of Lee Kuan Yew entirely!
You know this sort of nonsense is repeated on a daily basis in the news papers. In fact I had left out the story of "SM Goh launches health drive", "Kudos to Indian students", "351 at Mendaki Awards" and a number of stories about Mas Selamat who was recently recaptured.
By now this government already knows that the average reader can see through this stupidity but just as all the failed states in the past in Eastern Europe and elsewhere, the government finds it impossible to confront this failure or do anything about it, because this would mean their own downfall. So merely to postpone the eventual collapse of their system of government, which they themselves know is going to happen, until the 11th hour, they continue with this charade which does not impress anyone, least of all themselves.
So all that we have to do is to sit back and enjoy the fun, which is not going to be too long in coming.

Law Society of Singapore vs Gopalan Nair, looking sillier by the day
Ladies and Gentlemen,
You must know that as I write this blog in California, it is Thursday September 23, 2010, morning, in Singapore, which is the time of the scheduled Singapore Law Society Disciplinary hearing against me for among other things criticizing Singapore Judge Belinda Ang in this blog in 2008.
Even though they have fixed this matter for hearing from Sept 20, 2010 to Sept 24, 2010 at Court 2A in the Singapore High Court, I wonder whether the hearings are going on anyway, or are they having a party in there!
If they are not doing the hearings, then what exactly is happening? If they are, is the police officers and the witnesses formally giving testimony and the President dutifully taking them down undisputed (since I am not there) or have they all gone instead to the coffee shop for a drink and a bite, which seems the more appropriate thing to do in the circumstances.
You know these scholars whom Lee Kuan Yew has placed in authority in that island appear to have their brains in their backsides. Had they really thought the matter through, they would never have brought these proceedings, that is if they had any brains. Having done it, and with my describing every silly step they take in this blog, their whole purpose is not only defeated, they are made to look like clowns. Look at this:
1. Eventually when they disbar me, it would be perhaps another year, which would have made it, 3 years from the time I called Judge Belinda Ang a crook, which by the way she deserves.
2. All 5 charges would not hold water in any other jurisdiction. In the Confusion philosophy of not losing face, Lee Kuan Yew would have no other choice but to disbar me. And when he does that, which I hope he will, I will go to town with it.
3. The entire proceedings are unfair and not in compliance with natural justice. First the mysterious Audrey Lim Choon Yeng, Deputy Registrar, speaking for the Tribunal, refuses copies of the transcripts necessary for my defense, refuses to arrange any permission for me to enter Singapore as I am banned, and most importantly refuses to guarantee my safety while in Singapore. The fear of arrest if I entered Singapore is real, because of my similar criticism of Judge Judith Paraksh, commonly known as the Kangaroo Judge for her judgement in the Kangaroo Tshirt case, and not to mention my retraction of apologies given in Singapore court since my returning to the US.
Of course they have refused to pay for the court transcripts of my cases in Singapore which are necessary for my defense, or my transport to Singapore since it is they who have commenced these proceedings. Remember these proceedings are intended to take my livelihood as a lawyer in Singapore, a serious matter where every possible assistance should be provided to the Defendant to ensure judicial impartiality.
Audrey Lim Choon Yeng's actions were clearly prejudicial and a violation of natural justice. I intend to write about it again when the verdict arrives.
As for the guarantee which is crucial, even though I wrote to the Attorney General Singapore and every other Singapore government agency, I received none, which would make my presence in Singapore simply suicide.
4. And this is exactly what I wanted them to do, disbar me, which is the whole purpose of Singapore Dissident. It is intended to expose the injustice of the regime in which Lee Kuan Yew and these handpicked scholars are giving me the ammunition that I exactly need.
I tried calling on the telephone, Peter Cuthbert Low (he is a local Chinese, despite the name) of Colin Ng and Partners using a false name yesterday and just now for some fun. Yesterday his secretary first claimed that he was not in and asked me for my number which I refused, then she asked me to hold the line claiming that he was downstairs. Today, I did the same and received the same answer first. When I said I will call later, she asked me to hold the line. Not wanting to waste time and money on a long distance line for a little fun, I hanged up.
It appears to me that the man is in the office at 10.30 am. If that is the case, have Lee Kuan Yew's men decided to call off the Tribunal and just make it a guilty verdict as in Alice in Wonderland?
Lee Kuan Yew's Singapore, does provide entertainment, you cannot deny that. And what is more, I have managed to make them spend a great deal of money and time over me on all this, in circumstances where, instead of being saddened, as they expected, I am enjoying every minute.

Singaporean defaces Singapore flag in public.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Singapore's state controlled newspaper the Straits Times online edition of Sept 22, 2010 has the story "Man on flag vandalism charge". It talks about 36 year old Singaporean, Lim Keng Choon, being charged for vandalism by cutting the Singapore flag to bits, and doing the same to 2 Youth Olympic Games flags on September 20, 2010, at 8.30 am, this last Monday.
He is said to have this act of protest at the Town Council, Block 202, Compassvale Road. As is the normal practice in Singapore for anyone who shows any public dissatisfaction against Lee Kuan Yew or his people, he was immediately arrested and sent to the Institute of Mental Health, Singapore's mental hospital.
Lee Kuan Yew's understanding of Singaporeans appears to be that if you publicly protest or demonstrate against his policies, then you must be mad, because in Singapore normal sane people are not expected to behave like that, an unusual slant of thinking common in totalitarian regimes like the former Soviet Union.
The report says he will be detained within the mental asylum until October 6, 2010. After that he will appear before a Singapore government Lee Kuan Yew appointed judge to decide his punishment which is not something to be taken lightly. It is a maximum fine of $2,000 and/or jailed for 3 years and beaten by a stick (caned) on his naked backside at least 3 times. It is understood that when beaten, his skin is lacerated and bleeding, with pieces of flesh cut off by the ferocity of the cane. Some pieces of flesh stick to the cane. I understand the beatings which are carried out in private in prison by a trained prison officer, intended to cause maximum pain, will cause the floor of the room to be awash in blood, which is then mopped clean. After each stroke the floor is mopped to remove blood so as not to casue the beater to slip and fall. It is also understood that he may uncontrollably urinate and defecate in the excruciating pain. I also understand that the beatings which this man will receive will result in permanent scars and there is a possibility of both impotency and crippling. I understand that the beatings are so punishing and painful that many have either and passed out or died in the process. Those who pass out are revived with smelling salts and beaten again when lucid.
It seems strange that despite these unbearable barbaric acts of torture, there are still people in the country who are prepared to brave this dictatorship and publicly protest. In fact I have been told of another protest in front of Toa Payoh Library on Sept 18, 2010, Saturday at about noon.
I received an Email from a person that 2 men, one aged in his late teens and another slightly older who appeared in his 20s, were seen holding up posters, one of which read "PAP Sucking People's Blood" and another sign reading "PAP= Pay and Pay". I was told that a crowd on onlookers had gathered but within a few minutes 5 policemen arrived, 2 in plain clothes and the other 3 in uniform. They were seen checking the men's particulars and were see escorting them into a police van parked nearby. It appears they were not handcuffed but walked willingly with the policemen.
I am sure you would want to know the source of this information but I cannot give it. It was sent via Email and the sender specifically requested I do not disclose his email address, which I have to honor.
If anyone was in the vicinity of Toa Payoh Library at that time, Sept 18, 2010, noon, please send your comments to me. I will post them as I receive them. I must admit I do not know whether this in fact happened, except for the Email that I received.
But one thing appears certain. In the past no one would have believed it if you told them someone had defaced a Singapore flag or someone had stood with protest signs in public. Now it not only happens, it is becoming almost a normal occurrence. I think the protest movement is growing, thanks to Lee Kuan Yew's own harebrained policies and thanks to the Internet which has now become a formidable front in this war of attrition against this dictatorship.
I am not ashamed to say that Gopalan Nair and the Singapore Dissident, Dr. Chee Soon Juan and the countless others who have stood up and continue to stand up to this tyranny deserve credit. Thank you.
Last but not least our salutations and thanks to Lim Keng Choon. You are a brave man and with your suffering the cause of freedom in Singapore would have turned another cycle.
And this dictatorship, another foot in the coffin.

Thank you.

Singapore today, a fractured segregated society
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Singapore of my youth was not what it is today. We were Singaporeans, it did not matter whether Chinese Indian or Malay. A country just like it's people, over the years develops a character unique to itself. It is hard to explain but it was Singaporean. Just like it is hard to explain what it is for any other nation, but people there know what it is.
True, unlike the established countries like France or Britain, Singapore is young, but still in 50 years or so, it had a character, which Lee Kuan Yew destroyed. Were it not for him, Singapore would be very different in character today, I can assure you that. It would be a place with a soul, a place where people cared for each other and a government which put the people's interest first, not their own pockets.
Unfortunately today that character unique to Singapore is gone, thanks to Lee Kuan Yew and his immigration policies. Hundreds of thousands of Chinese peasants from Communist China with little education in anything, with no knowledge of any other language, let alone any knowledge of Singapore their host country are brought in. Many others from other neighbouring countries also pour into the small island.
These immigrants know nothing of the country they now call home. And unlike the USA or other Western Countries, there are no set of laws that define their rights within society. If there is a Constitution, they know nothing about it. Their only concern is to fend for themselves and their profit. Nothing more.
And knowing nothing of what a Malay or Indian is or what they look like, for the first time, they are asked to live among them. Fear and insecurity overcomes them and for a safety net they withdraw into their own communities. They are not aware of their Constitution, and therefore their rights in relation to others. It is like asking me to live in Kazakhstan tomorrow. Insecurity fear and trepidation overcomes them.
For the first time, they hear the Malays speaking a strange language, and the Indians speaking even stranger ones. And they look totally different from anyone they have seen, the Malays with strong built and brown skin with the Indians dark and hairy. Keep in mind, most Chinese coming from Mainland China are from it's remote areas because they are not accepted anywhere else, lacking qualifications. In most cases before coming to Singapore they probably never left their villages.
Their children go to school in Singapore not knowing what their rights are because their teachers like them are terrified by the minute of the same man, Lee Kuan Yew. They can be sacked the moment they utter any dissatisfaction towards the King (sort of a King), Singapore's Lee Kuan Yew or his son. No teacher would teach their child rights such as free speech and expression, a normal thing in any other part of the world, even though it is in the Constitution. To do so would be the doom of the teacher as well as the child, as we all would know sooner or later that demanding human rights in the island is hazardous to your life.
As a result, these Chinese human imports from China stick to their own community. If ever they cross over to others, it is only to the Singapore native Chinese community. As such over time, not only the recent foreign Chinese human imports but also the local Chinese become increasingly distant from the other races.
In this situation, the Indians themselves, not having any Chinese connections stick among themselves and so do the Malays. Today, as opposed to 50 years back, there is no "One Singapore" to speak of. You have the Mainland Chinese Singapore, the local Chinese Singapore, the Burmese Singapore, the Vietnamese prostitution ridden Singapore and you have the imported Indian Singapore and the local Indian Singapore. Each member of each group stay among themselves. They don't cross the lines.
It is not to say that other countries do not have immigrants, they do. But a new migrant to Australia is immediately told his rights, his duties and his responsibilities under the Constitution of the country. For instance the new migrant knows that Australia has a free press, the rule of law, independent judges, that he can criticize if he wants and if he is discriminated there is the Equal Opportunities Commission and Racial Discrimination laws. In this case, the new migrant steps into Australia, not insecure and terrified of what to expect but fully confident of what he is, a human being with all his rights under the proud nation of Australia.
He breathes freedom from the moment he steps off the aircraft in Sydney. He can go out an yell, "Down with you Kevin Rudd or who ever other is now the Prime Minister" but he will not be arrested and he knows it. In Singapore if you said it about Lee Kuan Yew or his son, you will be first arrested, taken to the Mental Hospital near Bishan a suburb of Singapore for various tests. After a few days there, you will be taken to Changi Jail, given food and lodging for a couple of days and then brought to court charged with "Insulting a Public Official" for which you will spend another few months in custody. That in a nutshell is the difference between Australia and Singapore and that is why Australia is a first world country and Singapore is Third, even if Lee Kuan Yew the Singapore King thinks so.
Other than the fact that you, a recent Chinese immigrant, are told that you could make a little more money than you can in impoverished Harbin, Communist China, you know nothing else. Zilch. Nada.
Even though outwardly they are told a lie by Singapore that you have courts and law and such like, within no time, you will know the truth. Which is, keep your mouth shut, obey, be quiet, go home and watch television and let Lee Kuan Yew do whatever he wants with your taxpayer money. And what is more, praise him whenever you are in public lest Lee's dreaded Tonton Macoute or the ISD catch you complaining.
And while this murder of a once great island goes on by the day, local capable Singaporeans leave the island in the thousands. At the same time, there are insufficient babies being born and if that is not enough, you have flooding every other day.
A racially fractured incongruous island such as this, will not have more than a year before you see visible signs of collapse.
Lee Kuan Yew does not appear to believe in the idea that the principle asset of any country is it's people.

Law Society of Singapore vs Gopalan Nair, the players
Ladies and Gentlemen,
The Disciplinary Hearings against me for criticizing the Singapore Judge Belinda Ang Saw Ean in this blog, other Singapore judges, among other charges has begun in Singapore. It began yesterday Sept 20, 2010 and will go on for the next 4 days to Sept 24, 2010.
As you are aware, I had asked for a guarantee from the Tribunal and the Singapore Attorney General among other government organizations, that I will not be arrested again if I went there to attend. To date no guarantee has been given. As you are aware from my blogs written since my return to the US in late November 2008, I would have have committed various other crimes under the Singapore understanding of the law and therefore returning to the island now would mean certain arrest and imprisonment.
I have lately received voluminous boxes of documents from the Law Society Counsel and the Tribunal in regards to this case, but I have not bothered to read them. It is a waste of time. These are Kangaroo proceedings which should be shown the contempt they deserve.
I have already written here what they are charging me with, which in any other jurisdiction would have been reason for applause and praise rather than for discipline. In democracies, political dissidents are respected instead of punished. The point of this exercise by Singapore is puzzling, since, if the purpose was to shut me up, they should know by now it will not happen.
On the other hand, if the purpose is to intimidate other Singapore lawyers, it would serve no purpose as well since they have already been intimidated and the only other result of it would be to cause even further attrition from the already dwindling number of lawyers practicing there from the already minuscule figure of 3,000 for the island's population of 5 million!
Moreover, it would be serving my purpose instead of theirs since the world will know of one more instance of the abuse of the law to silence dissent, confirming the 72 page report of the International Bar Association on Singapore; not to mention the huge time, expense and trouble that I put them to in this exercise.
To remind you once again, there are 5 charges against me.
Charges 1 and 2) That on the 4th of July I had used intemperate language against Lee Kuan Yew's police officers and had behaved in a disorderly manner. I have denied this entirely and was convicted solely on the evidence of police officers who parrot like repeated one after the other the same thing well rehearsed and regurgitated.
How distorted the whole trial was is seen in the fact that although the Singapore newspapers reported there to be 25 bystanders witnessing my arrest, not one independant witness was called to testify. In any case even if I had yelled at police officers, for the sake of argument, in no country in the world would I be severly punished, let alone disbarred. The most would have been a warning not to misbehave.
Charge 3) That in this blog dated May 29, 2008 "Singapore. Judge Belinda Ang's Kangaroo court", after explaining various instances of the misconduct of the Judge Belinda Ang Saw Ean, I had written the words " The Judge Belinda Ang was throughout prostituting herself during the entire proceedings by being nothing more than an employee of Lee Kuan Yew and his son and carrying out their orders." The word "prostituted" was a correct use of the English language as meaning "someone who had abused her office for a dishonest purpose". The words were justified in the context of what she had done and what I had described in the blog.
Charge 4) For defying an undertaking given to judge Leslie Chew not to criticize the Singapore judges again in contempt of court charges brought against me. I had given that undertaking while I was incarcerated in Singapore for criticizing judge Belinda Ang Saw Ean, and threatened with a longer prison term if I did not give in. My undertaking was not given freely and voluntarily. I had no intention of keeping that promise once I was outside Singapore. Accordingly once I landed in California, I withdrew my undertaking and apology and repeated the criticisms.
Charge 5) The same thing as what was said about Judge Belinda Ang in the case of Judge Judith Prakash when she sent to jail 3 young men for contempt of court merely for wearing Tshirts with pictures of Kangaroos in robes.
The procedure which the system adopts in Discipline cases there is firstly these Disciplinary Tribunal hearings are held. They are conducted in private meaning the public are not present. After that the report of the Tribunal, which we know in this case will be guilty, will be forwarded to a 3 Judge Panel of Singapore's Lee Kuan Yew's judges. That hearing is open to public where predictably I will be disbarred from the Rolls, not because of what I did, but because of who I am. That will be some time in the future.
At present, because of my writings, I am unable to return to Singapore not to mention practicing there. In any case these entire proceedings are moot, since it is mind boggling why they spend so much time and energy going against a lawyer who cannot even step foot in Singapore.
I am not surprised why this oligarchy in Singapore do this sort of thing, since you see the entire history of the island as a series of stupidity which has finally resulted in the present day Singapore, an island almost bereft of native Singaporeans who are hurriedly leaving the island in droves, being replaced by foreigners who know nothing of the country.
If you want to call this entire exercise an opera, the following are the key players:
1. Peter Cuthbert Low (Singapore native ethnic Chinese) Lawyer representing the Law Society who is prosecuting me. On the outside, it would appear that it is the Law Society which is doing this. But as in any other fascist government, the Singapore Law Society works at the behest of the Lee Kuan Yew government. You can therefore safely assume he is carrying out the orders of the government to punish the troublesome meddler, Gopalan Nair. Of course, this dirty work comes with it's rewards. He can look forward to more lucrative government contracts and in future perhaps even a judgeship. He works in the law firm Colin Ng and Partners LLP, 36 Carpenter Street, Singapore 059915, Tel: 65 6349 2373, Email: peterlow@cnplaw.com.
2. The Tribunal President, the judge hearing the case is Toh Kian Sing. He works in the firm Rajah and Tann, 9 Battery Road, #25-01, Straits Trading Building, Singapore 049910, Tel: 65 6232 0614, Email: kian.sing.toh@rajahtann.com. He is the other opportunist in this opera performed under the direction of Lee Kuan Yew and his Singapore government.
3. The Tribunal Judge, hearing the case with the Tribunal President is Tan Jee Ming. He works for Straits Law Practice LLP, 36 Robinson road, #18-00, City House, Singapore 068877, Tel: (65) 6514 1203. This firm does not have dedicated Emails for their lawyers. The general Email is mail@straitslaw.com.sg. Another opportunist pleasing Lee Kuan Yew in Lee Kuan Yew's island.
4. Then there is the mysterious Audrey Lim. Initially when these proceedings started, it was she writing to me on behalf of the Disciplinary Tribunal. Her letters were signed Audrey Lim, Deputy Registrar High Court. I did some research and found out from the Supreme Court web site that Audrey Lim has another full name, Lim Yoon Cheng. In order to ensure that this woman is not trying to conceal her true identity and also for the simple purpose of knowing who we are dealing with, I asked Angela Chopard of the Law Society who was signing some letters whether she knew the real name of Audrey Lim and if it was Audrey Lim Yoon Cheng. It was not altogether surprising, since concealing the identity of government personnel with nicknames is a normal practice there, almost predictably she claimed that she did not know the real name of Audrey Lim. Thereafter I elected to deal with Chopard instead.
I wonder why Chopard was protecting Audrey Lim Yoon Cheng, was it a default mechanism not to reveal real names in Singapore or something else I do not know.
The reader would be reminded that this woman Audrey Lim Yoon Cheng, instead of being an impartial officer in these proceedings was adamant not to provide any assistance to me at all. For instance, I had written to her, in her capacity of representing the Tribunal, asking for transcripts of the court records of my cases in Singapore, documents that were crucial to my defense. Her reply was that it was not her responsibility to arrange any of it and I should write to the relevant authorities for anything I want. The same when I asked that arrangements be made for me to enter Singapore since I was banned from entry.
The reader would agree that in jurisdictions all over the world, when proceedings are commenced against an individual such as myself, especially when he is not living in the country, the Tribunal has to ensure that the Defendant is provided with the necessary material and assistance so as to enable him to defend. Countries do this because they do not want to be seen as deliberately obstructing the Defendant. Obviously Singapore does not care about it's image on this score.
I guess in her eagerness to please the Singapore government in this exercise of disbarring a troublesome lawyer, she was determined to be seen as obstructive and obnoxious as possible.
She is Audrey Lim (full name Audrey Lim Yoon Cheng) ethnic native Chinese Singaporean, works as Deputy Registrar, Singapore Supreme Court, 1 Supreme Court Lane, Singapore 178879, Tel: (65) 6557 7541, Email: audrey_lim@supcourt.gov.sg.
There are of course the usual junior clerks and workers who do not have much education or understanding of much, which the former Devan Nair referred to as Lee Kuan Yew's "department store dummies". Among them is such like Angela Chopard of the Law Society who has been communicating the bad news to me on behalf of the Singapore Law Society, the proxy of the Lee Kuan Yew government. They can be ignored without more as the product of 50 years of brainwashing under one party rule. You find them in any fascist government including that of Hitler and Mussolini. They merely consider this their job, nothing more. They are so afraid and helpless, they would go along with anything.
If you are outraged by what is happening, please contact the above parties with a piece of your mind.

Singapore's unequal racial policies shoud ignite the Malays
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Singapore state controlled newspaper Straits Times online edition of Sept 17, 2010 has the story "No push to woo Malay migrants. Govt will rely on scholarships and jobs, says DPM Wong". In it, the Singapore Minister claims that "Singapore will not actively woo ethnic Malay immigrants". He says "What we cannot do is to go overseas and target specific ethnic groups to come to Singapore".
The Minister is not surprisingly lying again through his teeth, but in a country like Singapore where the entire media is state owned like the former Soviet Union or present day Communist China, he can of course get away with it. Except for the Internet, you can't really challenge him on it. Just as you couldn't in former Soviet Russia.
But unless we are blind, we can all see the truth, which is, the government favors Chinese immigration over Malays and Indians. And the truth is that Singapore does actively woo Chinese immigrants from Communist China with Singapore government agencies all over China advertising for immigrants. Through these advertisements in China, Singapore continues to attract all manner of Chinese in the hundreds of thousands to work in Singapore at all levels from dishwasher to Geylang independent contractor prostitutes. This active recruitment of Chinese nationals has been going on for decades. Only difference now is the recruitment effort has been heightened to bring in even larger numbers. You can see if you have eyes that Singapore is awash with Chinese faces, all recent immigrants from China though the extensive advertising which the Singapore government does to attract them. It did not happen by itself.
As for the Indians, a much smaller number is brought mainly to work as computer engineers in which they are skilled. But Indians are not brought in for the trade of dishwashers or freelance prostitutes or other menial non technical work like the Chinese. It is much harder for an Indian to immigrate into Singapore.
The race of people almost neglected by the government are the Malays. Even though the Malays have more children that the Chinese, no matter how big their families are, Lee Kuan Yew is determined to counter them by even larger Chinese human imports. With the present policy of this government, the Malay race is doomed. They are what the World Wildlife Organization calls "endangered species" when referring to animals.
I was reading yesterday that even though Malays do not emigrate in as large numbers as the Chinese and despite the fact that they have larger families, their numbers are in fact shrinking. In 2007, they were 15% of the population. Today they are 13%. This only happens with Lee Kuan Yew bringing in planeloads of riff raff from China, from waitresses who moonlight as prostitutes to Chinese hawkers in Chinatown.
Come on guys, this is not fair. In Singapore all races are supposed to be equal. Chinese are no more equal to others. Like the pigs in George Orwell's 1984 had said " Four legs are good but two legs are better". You see the pigs decided to walk on the hind legs! This is exactly what is happening there. The Chinese suddenly have got preferential treatment since Lee Kuan Yew is Chinese, just like the pigs in Orwell's 1984; so the Chinese get the bread and the Malays get the crumbs.
If there is any Malay out there reading this, no violence please, because that is wrong. Violence did not achieve anything. But if you were so enraged as to boil with rage, there is not a single decent two legged human who would not understand. Please remember, your quarrel is not with your fellow Chinese Singaporeans because it is not their fault. Your anger should be directed to Lee Kuan Yew and his government who take your country away from you. Remember it is yours as much as it is Chinese. Don't stand for it.
Cry foul to High Heavens and demand your rights. Don't stand for it like you have done so far.
Salaam.

Singapore, Cracks in Leadership Beginning to Show
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Singapore's state controlled newspaper Straits Times online edition of Sept 14, 2010 has the story "Tommy Koh weighs in". In it, Senior Diplomat and high ranking member of Lee Kuan Yew's Peoples Action Party, in an action almost totally unprecedented in Singapore's entire history has questioned government policy and has stated openly and almost defiantly that Singapore should implement minimum wage law.
He is reported to have said "The growing disparity and the hardship faced by the lowest 20% of our workers is a threat to our social cohesion and inconsistent to our policy of inclusive growth". He also said "As a Straits Times correspondent has recently commented, Singapore is a first world country with a third world wage structure".
Professor Koh is Lee Kuan Yew's handpicked special advisor to the Institute of Policy Studies, an organization very close to the government which it uses as it's mouthpiece on important issues.
Such open defiance against official government policy in the island is almost unheard of.
True to the Fascist style government, every official and top associate such as Professor Tommy Koh are required to tow the government line and speak with one voice which is, that they are against minimum wage law as this will result in their losing competitiveness.
This has been the official policy of the Lee Kuan Yew government from the very top, as has been repeatedly stressed by Lee Kuan Yew's son himself, the Prime Minister as well as the Minister for Labor, Gan Kim Yang and Lim Swee Say, the Trade Union Secretary General.
In fact the stand against minimum wage in the island is so entrenched that it is almost etched in stone, which is, no minimum wage law in the island at any cost.
It is an irony, that the person clamouring most for a minimum wage to be enacted today, is none other than Lee Kuan Yew's arch enemy and his greatest threat, Dr. Chee Soon Juan.
By arguing openly for the minimum wage, Professor Tommy Koh, a seemingly ardent card carrying member of the PAP is in fact seen to be siding with Dr. Chee Soon Juan of the Singapore Democratic Party.
The last time anyone close to Lee Kuan Yew who turned against him was the former President Devan Nair who was abruptly thereafter accused of molesting half naked Dayak women in Sarawak and unceremoniously kicked out of office. He died not too long ago in exile in Canada. Another such an unfortunate individual was Francis Seow, the former Solicitor General, who was immediately accused of tax fraud, arrested and beaten and thereafter fled Singapore.
This temerity by someone close to the government, like Professor Tommy Koh, contradicting it's policies is the first in history for a long time. I am not sure what to make of this. It could possibly be the first crack in the PAP machinery since Lee Kuan Yew himself has admitted he has not long to live.
Is this a sign of even more disagreements in the higher ranks of the government? Are we next going to see another PAP Minister coming out openly against government policies, like Tommy Koh?
Or is this a pleasant surprise that Tommy Koh is in fact defecting altogether from the PAP and going over to the opposition Singapore Democratic Party's side?
Or is an enflamed Lee Kuan Yew now suddenly going to accuse Professor Tommy Koh of raping 23 half naked women in a row in Papua New Guinea last year when he was there on an official visit and give the the same ignominious boot as he gave Devan Nair? With Lee Kuan Yew any suprises are possible!
Only time will tell what is next. I hope that this action by this man is the first sign that the lofty tower of the PAP is in fact beginning to crack and Professor Tommy Koh's act in the fist in a line that will spread and bring down this government.
Regardless of Tommy Koh's intentions, and despite his career of shamefully shoring up a fascist dictatorship for decades, I must thank him for having said this and I hope others brave souls will take his cue and stand up for once from their prostrated knees.

Singapore's best kept secret, the Constitution
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Miss Alice Wong, not her real name spoke to me yesterday from the Singapore Institute of Management where she reads Mass Communication for a Bachelor's Degree. She is 21 and a Singaporean.
While talking, I asked her if she has heard of the Singapore Constitution in which she has rights such as freedom of speech.
She said, she has only vaguely heard of the Constitution of Singapore and is really unaware of her rights. But what was worse was that she was completely indifferent about it one way or the other.
And she is not alone. In Singapore today almost everyone both young and old regardless of what they do for a living has either never heard of the Constitution or do not know whether they have any rights, or what they are. They could be engineers doctors or security guards. They know what is required of them in their jobs, but other than that, not much. The Singapore education system is useful only to do a job, other than that they are intentionally kept in the dark.
That is why you have to give it to Lee Kuan Yew for his cunning. Over 50 years he has carefully and meticulously kept the Constitution of Singapore a secret from his people. It is not taught in schools and even high school students or even college students have never heard of it. There is no school courses conducted on the subject.
The Constitution has instruments in them that he does not like, like the right to freedom of speech and expression. These things if made known to his subjects might cause dissension and demands, demands leading to a threat to his absolute control. Therefore he keeps the troubling Constitution under wraps. Just give them jobs and ask them to mind their own business, while Lee Kuan Yew does whatever he wants.
It is clear he has succeeded beyond his wildest dreams. Today the Constitution of Singapore is something the majority of Singaporeans have never heard of. They have never heard of it, and if they did vaguely, they do not know what is in it, rights which belong to them, like the right to free speech and expression, the right to assemble, the right to an independent media.
When I asked Alice Wong whether she was concerned about such things as freedom of speech and human rights, she seemed bored. She did not know one way or another. I could have spoken to her till the cows came home, but it would have made no difference.
My contact with her came about when she sent me an Email asking for my views on a paper she is writing in school on whether I thought the government should open up the media for a more independent press. I told her that it was not up to the government to decide on it, it is her right and therefore the government should do it at once. I am not sure whether she understood the point.
Today I had emailed her if I could have an interview with her for a blog post about how Lee Kuan Yew has kept the citizens of Singapore in the dark about their rights.
She has not answered my email. I am not surprised.
Alice Wong is studying Mass Communication to become a journalist I suppose. I shudder to think what sort of journalist she will become.
One thing is clear. Singapore does not have a thinking population. All they are good for is to do their jobs, have some fun and live their lives and be happy.
I am not sure who it was who said ignorance is bliss. Going by Miss Alice Wong here, he is absolutely right.

Lee Kuan Yew's Singapore, an achievement or a failed experiment.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Anyone coming to Singapore island for the first time would be no doubt impressed. Resplendent with high rise towers, glass monuments sparkling in the burning sun, litter free streets and free running motor traffic unlike the congestions of Bangkok or Manila. One cannot be blamed for thinking, great achievement, miracle of the century.
Anyone can put up window dressing but what matters surely is what is in there. I am told even the capital city of the repressive North Korea Pyongyang is also similar. But we all know what North Korea really is and what it is not.
In my reckoning, Lee Kuan Yew is a total failure. If he has been successful, it has only been to pay himself, his family and his cronies and sycophants $3.7 million dollars a year of salary and to siphon off even more untold sums of state money.
As for Singapore, the following is what he has created. Is this success or something else?
As to how much Singaporeans disapprove of their own country, this fact is illuminating. Today Singapore has a literally dying population with the lowest birth rate in the world, for an already tiny native island population of about 3 million, an alarming circumstance indeed.
In a few decades, at this rate, there won't be any more real native born Singaporeans left. The number of children born is insufficient even to replace the existing people.
The number of disaffected Singaporeans leaving the island for settlement abroad is mounting, as many as a thousand a year and climbing. Highly educated Singaporeans, the very ones Singapore needs the most, of all races continue to leave. The ones remaining are those incapable of leaving being unskilled and uneducated.
To overcome the population dearth, Lee Kuan Yew brings in unimaginably large numbers of foreigners to settle there. Many of them are given citizenship and the rest come for a duration and leave.
Singapore's population is now transient with most people there staying for temporary short stints. These are usually the lesser qualified ones who are either incapable of emigrating to the desired destinations of Australia Canada and the USA or are there to acquire skills which will enable them to emigrate later.
Within a few years with insufficient child birth and massive emigration, there will no longer be anymore native born Singaporeans in Singapore. They would consist entirely of foreigners, recent immigrants or recently naturalized Singaporeans.
These new transient citizens and residents would have no loyalty interest or passion for the island. Productivity and quality would drop island wide.
With the Singaporeans of today, living in fear of Lee Kuan Yew's draconian rule and the need to submit to his authority, he has created a uniform Singaporean, uniform in both mind and spirit.
This Singaporean has no opinion other than the universally accepted view. He has no opinion on the issue of fundamental rights which he has none. No opinion on the question of the rule of law, which there is none in the island. No opinion on the question of corruption among the Lee Kuan Yew family when they pay themselves millions of his tax payers money.
The Singaporean which Lee Kuan Yew created today is literally a zombie, an automaton. The former President of Singapore Devan Nair described them as "department store dummies". They are a species which will accept anything and have the courage to protest about nothing. What Lee Kuan Yew created is a weak ineffective effete half educated cowardly human being. This is not the sort of animal capable of achieving greatness.
He has created and effectively entrenched state sanctioned racial discrimination. Malays and Indians are not as favoured as the Chinese. They are not allowed to live wherever they want, a Malay cannot be an Air Force Officer and they are dissuaded from joining the civil service higher echelons. The police force on the other hand has a disproportionately large number of Malays because the better educated Chinese and Indians find the sort of work unpleasant and abhorrent such as arresting Lee Kuan Yew's political opponents.
PAP card carrying members are given preference over government contracts and business opportunities. Since all this dirty work is secretly done, as there is no free press, one cannot prove the nepotism, but we all can see that it is so.
The courts and law being routinely used to silence political dissent, the entire island has lost faith in the legal system. You cannot get justice if you are not connected to the Lee Kuan Yew family and if you are, then your victory is guaranteed. As a result the law is largely not resorted to by the citizenry, with the brand new latest technology law courts sitting as White Elephants, empty most of the time for lack of cases.
The number of lawyers there are just 3,000 for a population of 5 million, a number totally inadequate relative to population size. Singaporeans do not chose a career in the law which they see as discredited.
Lee Kuan Yew placed his son the Prime Minister whom no one respects and no one cares for. With Lee Kuan Yew's demise his son would very probably flee the island taking with him his entire set of compliant ministers and friends.
Building skyscrapers is simply not enough. What should have been done is to develop and nurture an intelligent thinking and independent minded proud people. Instead he has created dummies and zombies. This is not an achievement. It is a total failure which will disintegrate together with Lee Kuan Yew's coffin.

Singapore's Lee Kuan Yew, waits for the end.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
The New York Times of Sept 11, 2010 has the story "Days of Reflection for a man who defined Singapore". It is an interview with him by the papers' Seth Mydans in Singapore recently. In it, he reflects upon his life in politics, his wife who is bedridden and his feeling progressively weaker with age at 87 and the realization that he will die very soon.
His general tone appears to be one of some sadness, as he reflects on his actions over the years to keep him in power, actions which he appears not very proud of, but which he claims were necessary. You can sense guilt in his words.
Dostoevsky, the Russian novelist and philosopher's theory is that conscience is a much powerful force, even more powerful than Hell after life. In his classic novel Crime and Punishment, the main character who does evil is eventually completely overcome by his conscience when he finally confesses his crimes and looks forward to being punished. By his confession he is released from the agony he suffered in his life by his conscience.
Lee Kuan Yew in this interview is exactly as the criminal in Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment. The words he uses gives his state of mind away. He asks "So, when is the last leaf falling", meaning when am I going to die? He says "I can feel the gradual decline of energy and vitality". "And I mean generally every year, when you know you are not on the same level as last year."
He spoke with envy of people who found strength in religion. Since he did not believe in God, he could only say to himself "Life is just like that".
About life after death he says "What is next, I do not know, nobody has ever come back". He worries how long and in what form his model (Singapore) may endure once he is gone.
So in order to keep alive as long as he can, he swims, cycles and has a massage. He says "I know if I rest I will slide downhill fast".
The interview is a long one and finally he confesses. He says "I am not saying that everything I did was right", "but everything I did was for an honorable purpose. I had to do some nasty things, locking fellows up without trial".
He also says because Singapore has a multi racial society with Chinese Malays and Indians, democracy will not work and there has to be authoritarian rule. (My paraphrase of what he said).
I agree, Lee Kuan Yew is going to die sooner than he thinks. It is one thing for a man to keep going with exercise in old age because he wants to keep fit. It is quite another when he keeps fit because he is afraid to die, which Lee is. Lee is not keeping fit because he enjoys it, he rather relax, rest and enjoy life, but he cannot.
He does it(excercising and keepng fit) instead, because he is afraid for his son whom he appointed the Prime Minister. He realises that his son is simply not up to it, no one respects him and the moment he dies, he will be given the boot or even worse. He realises that the biggest mistake he did was to place his son Prime Minister which now hangs around his neck like the Albatross. In order to keep his son alive, he too has to keep alive, he has no choice. So he fights every single minute of the day for his last breath.
This sort of desperation will kill him, instead of keeping him alive.
And then he says the illegal actions he took were honorable. That torturing Lim Chin Siong, Said Zahari, Dr. Lim Hock Chew and Chia Thye Poh and jailing them for decades were were "honorable" actions, even though they were not given a trial and there was not a single piece of evidence that they were a threat to the security of the island.
I think here he is having one of those serious attacks of the conscience, which murderers, rapists and burglars face over the years. Sooner or later the guilt of what they have done overcomes them, and they suffer under it, finding a little comfort in confessing their sins to someone, which Lee is doing now with New York Times.
I will tell Lee Kuan Yew this and now. There was no justification whatsoever for what you have done and what you are doing. In the 1960s there was no justification for you to imprison your political foes without trial for decades. None of them were threats to the security of Singapore. If they were any threat, they were threats to you and no one else and in your greed to hold on to power, you misused the law to put these good men away for no rime or reason. You destroyed them, you destroyed their families and their children. These are actions that Hitler did, just as you have done. So please don't call them honorable, you insult the very word.
And your talking of the need to have an authoritarian rule simply because Singapore is a multi racial society is simply funny. Today there is no country in the world that is uniform in race, every country both big and small is multi racial. They are not at each other's throats just because of that. And your excuse to have authoritarian rule just because it is a multi racial society is just silly. It is simply an excuse for you to destroy your opponents and cling to power.
I am glad you put your son as the Prime Minister. You are going to die soon, you will not last. And with your dying, your son will not know which way to turn. And so will your handpicked sycophantic ministers. Singapore will collapse with you and a new and better Singapore will be born like a Phoenix from the sands. It will be a a better place than this, as Darshan Singh Singapore's world famous executioner( Alan Shadrake's book "Once a Jolly Hangman") used to say to his victims just before he slid the noose under their throats.
And in passing let me tell you this. Despite Singapore's glass towers and high rise buildings, Singapore is a place much worse than the poorer neighbouring countries. In your Singapore, there is no rule of law, no independent press, and in it, there is a King, which is you, whom everyone has to live in fear of. Living a life such as that is far worse than living in the neighbouring countries where at least one can be free.

Lee Kuan Yew's Singapore forces foreigners to become citizens
Ladies and Gentlemen,
In Singapore's state controlled newspaper the Straits Times online edition of Sept 9, 2010, there is the shocking story, "SM clarifies PR (permanent residence) renewal".
Lee Kuan Yew's Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong, who does not have any full time position, but whose job it appears is to make periodical speeches which take his fancy, for which by the way, he is paid $3.7 million dollars a year, is reported to have said "In the past we could just give you permanent residence without taking up Singapore citizenship. Moving forward, we are going to approach some of them to take up Singapore citizenship. If they don't then their PRs (Singapore permanent residence) will not be renewed"!
Only in Singapore where nepotism and corruption rules with draconian punishment for critics in a fear ridden society will a man who has no full time government position, and nothing to do, is paid $3.7 million dollars a year, but that story is for some other day.
But coming back to this story of forcing people to becomes Singapore citizens, what this man is saying is that Singapore is going to force people to become citizens. If you don't want to be a citizen, you would be booted out. They are not going to allow you to work there unless you become their citizen!
Frankly this is the first time I have ever heard any country doing this, and it smacks of desperation. Mostly it is the other way round. People living in foreign countries may like it and apply for citizenship. The host country would accept qualified applicants and reject others. Citizenship should be at the request of the applicant, not the country forcing you to be one!
No country, not even Iraq or Afghanistan who have seen an exodus of people escaping the war, have forced anyone to become their citizens. This threat by Lee Kuan Yew's Singapore upon foreigners is not only desperate, it is pathetic.
Of course you know why they have stooped so low. Singapore's name has been internationally discredited as a country that hangs teenagers with the highest execution rate in the world. A place that brutally beats petty criminals (they call it "caning"). A one party state with no rule of law, and where defamation court actions is the preferred instrument to destroy political opponents.
As a result, the city state with a greatly limited land area of only 16 miles by 26 miles, has the lowest fertility rate in the world, the lowest marriage rates and a population which has been found to the unhappiest in the world. It also has one of the highest suicide rates in the world, with between 1 and 2 people taking their lives daily, the preferred method being jumping off the ubiquitous high rise apartments or by jumping onto oncoming trains and being crushed.
So it is not surprising that no one wants to become a citizen of the country preferring to spend some time there to earn some money and get the Hell out of there.
Of course there is this blog that further aggravates the situation for those in power in the island, as well as the Internet which on a daily basis tells it as it is.
Finally, this man Goh Chok Tong should realise that even if anyone became a citizen of that Alice in Wonderland island, having succumbed to the threats of deportation, what sort of citizens would they become? Not very good ones, I don't think.
I suppose I should finish by saying you can take a horse to water, you cannot make him drink.

Singapore floods, now a daily occurance
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Singapore's state controlled newspapers online edition of Sept 9, 2010 has the story "Floods hit Little India, CBD". It says "A heavy downpour more than 2 hours in the late morning on Wednesday caused flash floods in several city areas. Worst hit was Little Inida, around Jalan Besar, Rowell Road and Hindoo Road traffic snarled and businesses were affected."
It says water was ankle deep. However pictures of the flood show water half way up cars which looks more like a couple of feet.
This sort of flooding in Singapore is even worse than what happened in Pakistan. There it was caused by the monsoons, which comes once a year. Rest of the year it is dry. In Singapore on the other hand, flooding is not caused by monsoons but by the daily evaporation and condensation of water vapour, which rises, condenses in high altitudes and comes down as rain.
As climate change has caused air temperature to rise, and rising, the air itself can contain a much larger volume of water vapour, which in turn means it now it does not just rain, the sky opens its floodgates with a ton of water just dropping from the sky.
This is why you have these increasingly frequent floods, which, I am sad to say, consequent on the constant and progressive increase of air temperature, is going to be more and more frequent, more and more intense, and the flooding deeper and even more widespread.
Soon, in the not too distant future, the entire island would be flooded, save Bukit Timah hill.
With the flooding increasing and more widespread, it is going to flood even more basement car parks than in the past, many which contain electrical boxes, causing fire and human fatalities. It is also going to flood the underground rail system trapping trains underground and drowning passengers trapped in trains and underground platforms.
And mind you, the entire city of Singapore, a tiny piece of land 16 miles across and 26 miles vertical, is only a few feet above water. And this small piece of land contains no less than 5 million people, which the government intends to increase very soon to 6.5 million.
In order to house this population into this tiny strip of land, the government is going to build even more concrete high rise apartments into a space which is already packed like sardines, generating even more heat, and thereby creating even more intense flooding.
The warmer the air temperature, the more the flooding.
I wish I could say these floods were once in a lifetime occurrence which one government minister claimed and which has been roundly disproved, or at least that it is going to be the same. No the prognosis is more calamitous than that, I am sorry to say. The frequency of these floods is going to progressively increase because of climate change. There will come a time I fear that Singapore cannot accommodate a million people, let alone 6.5 million unless it is turned somehow into an equatorial Venice.
I fear businesses leaving en masse, the recent immigrants turning around and going home and Lee Kuan Yew, once dead, results in his million dollar minister also turning around and heading to higher ground, not in Singapore but elsewhere.
To be fair, Lee Kuan Yew and his friends are only partly liable. True, they thoughtlessly kept on building massive structures and flooded the island (pardon the pun) with immigrants. But as for what Mother Nature is doing to Singapore, they cannot be faulted.
After all even lee Kuan Yew cannot stop the rain.

The most stupid Singapore story, a 4 year old philanthropist!
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Singapore's state controlled newspaper or propaganda sheet, the Straits Times of Sept 06, 2010 has this really stupid story, "Just 4 but helping needy. Boy donates savings to ST fund through OCBC's coin bank initiative".
This is not only a silliest story of the century, capable only of dictatorships out to propagandize their citizens, it is also a complete misuse of a 4 year old boy.
According to this stupidity, a Singaporean 4 year old boy, Kendric Chang (the name itself explains a lot about this boy's parents) "over the past 2 months, four year old Kendric Chang has been making effort to set aside some of the money his father gives him weekly for the Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund (SPMF).
Let me remind you of what this 4 year old boy is doing. He is giving away the money his father gives him to charity!
If in fact this boy is doing this by himself, the natural reaction of most people, including me, is he is mentally defective. No child aged 4 wants to give away money he has. Had I done this myself when I was 4, I am sure my parents would have worried. At 4, I wanted as much money as I could have, even if I could grab it from others. I was just like any other boy, just a boy. That's how 4 year olds behave all around the world. And that is why most parents of 4 year old boys have a such a hard time telling them they can't have any more money!
It is quite obvious to anyone that unless Kendric Chang has something wrong in his head, it is not the boy doing it at all, it is his mother Jane Tan who is orchestrating the poor boy, using him for her own benefit.
Singapore is a one party dictatorship where just as in Soviet Russia, the newspapers are used to demand a certain behaviour from it's citizens. In this case, it is also used by the boy's mother to obtain recognition as a strong government supporter who makes sure her 4 year old son donates to her caring and generous government. In this way, she is looking forward to promotion and more money in her career, and the hope for her son to admitted to the prized Young PAP, to serve Lee Kuan Yew and his son during his entire life, thereby ensuring a long and prosperous career to himself, thanks to good old Lee Kuan Yew.
If you see this woman, Jane Tan, please tell her this. Don't misuse the boy. Don't use him to advance your agenda. Let him be like any other normal 4 year old boy, who yearns for as much money as possible. Such philanthropy should come from himself, not by your telling him to do it. Teach him good things, honesty sincerity and honor. Don't teach him to give away money to others. Not at this age anyway. This is not the time.
Jan Tan, you should be ashamed. You are what they call in America, a gold digger. It is not a very nice thing. Had you been in America, I would have reported you to Child Services for misusing the baby. You have to have your head examined.

Singapore Elections, don't hold your breath.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
It never fails to amaze me, that even after election after election in Singapore since 1959, where Lee Kuan Yew predictably like clockwork wins 82 seats, give a take 2 seats, and the opposition winning 2 seats, give or take 2 seats, but yet, the people even bother to look forward to it.
Read my lips, I won't say it again. Lee Kuan Yew and his son are going to win again. Although I have always suspected they stuff the ballot boxes, I will tell you this time, they will never lose. And if stuffing the ballot boxes is the way to go, then that is what is going to happen.
Low Thia Khiang of the Workers Party will win again, not because anyone voted for him, but because Lee Kuan Yew wants him to win. He is on their side, if you did not know. So will Chiam See Tong, and if he is dead, his wife, for the same reasons.
This time, newcomer Kenneth Jeyaretnam of JB Jeyaretnam fame, will win, not because anyone voted for him but because Lee Kuan Yew needs him like he needs the other two. It is now established very clearly that he is another Low Thia Khiang or Chiam See Tong. He will make big speeches which Lee will promptly ignore, and that will be that. You know what I mean. Another reason why Kenneth, lets call him that so as not to discredit his august father, will win is because it is a good photo opportunity for Lee Kuan Yew to tell the world that he now has three opposition members in Parliament. Two is a bit low.
I hope as a betting man, others will honor my prediction and pay up when the time comes.
So, don't hold your breath about the elections. Get one thing straight. Lee Kuan Yew is determined to win no matter what.
But the good news I think is this. Really we don't need the elections to bring this government down since they are already doing it to themselves. Their policies of immigration, the massive brain drain, arresting Shadrake, suing and bankrupting every detractor that comes along, politicizing the judiciary and instilling fear in the minds of every Singaporean, is destroying them anyway. I give it a year for this government to disintegrate. And that too is a bet I am willing to take.
