Singapore Lee Kuan Yew's cruel repression of his people
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Have you every wondered why students at Singapore universities unlike students in any other university in the world appear never to have held any protests about anything. I understand students in North Korea also never protest unless it is an organized one to shout insults against America.
Are Singapore students happy with everything that is happening because students who are expected to think would be expected to be unhappy at times. Have you ever wondered why in a city state with no free press, no human rights of free speech or expression, no free press or no ability to protest at all, why no one is openly demanding a change?
Unless they are all happy with the way they live, this strange and eerie silence is unusual and out of the ordinary.
I was born in Singapore and it was my home. I can tell you why.
Lee Kuan Yew's suppression is so ruthless that he has successfully intimidated and silenced an entire population.
For those who are unhappy, the only way out is to leave the island entirely for settlement abroad. Those who stay do so out of greed for the millions that come their way in return for supporting the regime. Then you have the other poorer classes who are not aware that they have any rights, due to ignorance or illiteracy.
This ruthless practice which he has fined tuned over the years is like this. He publicly and with great fanfare denies those who oppose him a livelihood.
And he makes sure when he does this to his victim, it is very well publicised so that the message is sent throughout the island of the dangers of this course of action. He uses his state controlled newpapers and his state controlled media to spread the news.
His victim not only suffers a loss of livelihood, the state denies him every other benefit that others receive. In a small island like Singapore, the news of this victimization against anyone is spread right across the island.
This effectively sends chills down the spine of anyone ever contemplating criticizing or challenging Lee Kuan Yew or his family. The disgraceful results of Lee's actions are guaranteed. No one in his right mind would dare openly challenge Lee Kuan Yew in his Singapore.
The Communist Chinese have used this practice successfully for years. It has a name. It is called killing a chicken to frighten the monkeys. And the monkeys are the people. In other words you punish someone very hard to make him an example. It becomes a powerful deterrent.
In China one recent example was Liu Xiabo, the critic who wrote essays on democracy which the state did not like. They have sent him to prison for 11 years, languishing in some remote part of China. An Wei Wei was another critic. He too has been packed off to prison. In Communist China, the monkeys (Chinese citizens) have indeed been frightened.
And Lee has been using this tactic very successfully against any opposition in his island city state for the last 51 years. Here are the examples of the "chickens" (his victims) he has killed (presecuted) in his Singapore to so successfully frighten his Singaporean "monkeys"(his people).
The following victims are only the people whom I personally knew. I am sure there are many hundreds or thousands more who have lost their livelihoods for challenging the island's dictator.
Chee Soon Juan was a university professor at the National University of Singapore. He has a PhD in Neuropsychology. He decided 2 decades ago to openly contest elections in Singapore against Lee Kuan Yew. He is a highly educated man.
Lee terminated his employment as professor, he was sued several times for defamation of character suffering court damages of more than several millions of dollars, he sold his house to pay Lee, he was bankrupted and jailed.
Today he sells books that he himself wrote in the streets of Singapore for a bare living. He is disqualified from contesting elections and banned from politics. His wife and children suffer with him. I am grateful to him for all the help he gave me while I was a Lee Kuan Yew prisoner in 2008 in the island.
His sister is also a Lee Kuan Yew critic, Chee Siok Chin. She was a teacher. She too decided to enter opposition politics against Lee. She was dismissed from her teaching job, and is unemployed. She has no income and no way to make a living.
No one will ever give her a job for fear of inviting the wrath of the Singaporean dictator. She too was sued for millions of dollars, and like her brother is a bankrupt. She is unable to leave the country and is banned from politics.
John Tan was a teacher in James Cook University, a branch of the Australian university in Singapore. He has a Masters degree. He too is an open critic of Lee Kuan Yew and contested elections. He was terminated from his teaching job and sent to prison. He is unemployed.
Gandhi Ambalam was another member of Chee's political party. He has a degree from the University of London in England and used to work in the media. He openly expressed opposition to Lee Kuan Yew's politics. He was dismissed from his job. He is unemployed. He has been sent to prison several times.
Jufri Mahmood used to work as an interpreter in the Ministry of Home Affairs. He had written something in an essay which Lee Kuan Yew did not like. He was charged and convicted of sedition and the Official Secrets Acts. He spent one year in prison. He too was dismissed from his job.
Today he is a building contractor but finds it very difficult to get any work. When I was in Singapore and arrested for writing a blog critical of Lee Kuan Yew's judges, he had some work in renovating the office of the Malaysian High Commission in Singapore.
He has a difficult time surviving. I have to add, he is a very good man. He helped me with accommodation at his office. Just as I am to Chee Soon Juan, I am ever grateful to him.
The late JB Jeyaretnam suffered the most in recent times. For the last 3 decades, he was repeatedly sued for defamation of character, jailed, bankrupted and made to pay several millions of dollars in damages to Lee Kuan Yew. He died in 2008.
Tang Liang Hong was a lawyer who challenged Lee Kuan Yew in the 1997 elections. He had accused Lee of corruption which happened to be true, the case of discounts received in the purchase of Jade Mansions condominiums for himself, each of his children and his wife. He too was sued.
Tang was himself a millionaire. Lee took all his money in court damages, garnished his bank accounts, and wanted to arrest him. He fled into exile by crossing into Malaysia. He is a pauper now. He lives in Melbourne Australia. Lee Kuan Yew took his millions. He cannot return to Singapore.
Wong Hong Toy was working with JB Jeyaretnam in the old Workers Party. He too was sued bankrupted and jailed and disqualified from politics.
Dr. Tan Bin Seng was a medical doctor. He was repeatedly sued and criminally charged. He was also repeatedly subject to cooked up disciplinary charges relating to his medical practice and repeatedly suspended from practicing medicine. I am not sure now whether he practices medicine now or has he given up entirely.
Teo Soh Lung was a woman lawyer with many years experience. She decided to do some good for the poor. Lee arrested her and some 22 others and branded them Marxist Conspirators and put them in jail without trial.
Teo was repeatedly beaten and kept in solitary confinement. She can identify Lee's officers who tortured her. After 2 years in jail she was released. She lost her law practice. She is now unemployed.
In my case, while practicing law in Singapore in 1991, I was found guilty of professional misconduct of writing a letter to the then Attorney General asking for information on JB Jeyaretnam's convictions.
I was suspended from practicing law for 2 years. Also in 1991, I was found in contempt of court for making an election rally speech during the 1991 elections in which I stood as a candidate.
Earlier in the 1980s, also while practicing law in Singapore, disciplinary proceedings were commenced against me for sending foreign embassies and consulates in Singapore information of the injustice to my client. I obtained political asylum in the US in 1995 for the repression I suffered in Singapore.
In 2008 when I returned to Singapore I was jailed for writing a blog post in this blog about the injustice meted out to Chee Soon Juan by Lee Kuan Yew during a Singapore trial. I was present in court. Recently I have been disbarred from practicing law in Singapore. I consider my Singapore disbarment as an honor and a badge to be worn with pride.
This sort of blatant misuse of the law to silence dissent does take it's toll. Singaporeans today are almost to the man so terrified of Lee Kuan Yew which is why you see no one publicly complaining or having anything to do with the trifling opposition parties such as that of Dr. Chee Soon Juan.
Singapore's people today are not ones who appear to have the qualities that one would expect in human beings, the qualities of courage, integrity and honor. The only ones who appear to have them, are those above who have suffered so much. Singapore is one country that punishes and victimizes it's best sons and daughters, and as you can see, every one of the above are Singapore's best.
There can be no better human beings than men like Dr. Chee Soon Juan and his sister Chee Siok Chin today, both who care deeply for the good of Singapore and it's betterment and the courage to fight for those ideals. And this is what they get for their efforts.
Instead Singapore rewards sycophants and bootlickers like the Tamil Minister K Shanmugam who makes sure that every single human right is criminalized. For Lee Kuan Yew, K Shanmugam is his model citizen.
This blog is my very powerful weapon against Lee Kuan Yew's tyrannical regime in Singapore. It enables me to remind Singaporeans exactly what they are living under so as to provoke a sense of indignation and outrage against these injustices.
For political change, under any political doctrine, antagonizing the people against their oppressors is the most important first step to create change.
I know that the Lee Kuan Yew regime is boiling with rage and wish to have me stopped at any cost, especially since it is read in Singapore, but they are constrained, firstly from the fact that I write from abroad and secondly the only way to block it is to demand the US based Internet providers to block it, which they find difficult to do I suppose, as this will show them as an intolerant repressive city state.
Also from California I can write exactly what I think because I have no one in Singapore against whom they can retaliate as opposed to many other Singaporeans living abroad with families still in Singapore. To that extent, I guess I am one lucky man.
I suppose now the reader can see why in Singapore, they are quite content with their lives. They don't appear to have any complaints whatsoever.

Singapore. Has it flooded this week?
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Just wondering. Has it flooded this week? The usual places I suppose, Orchard Road, Lucky Plaza, Liat Tower, Equatorial Plaza, Lee Kuan Yew Plaza, Vivian Balakrishan Water Minister Plaza, Tin Pei Ling Plaza?
Someone has suggested that they are going to build a 10 meter wall all around the island to keep the sea in. Over Singapore they will build a huge concrete umbrella to keep the rain out, with an opening at the top. The Water Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, dressed in raincoat, will have an office at the ceiling of the umbrella with a stairway leading outside.
He will periodically peep outside and report on whether it is raining and close the hatch immediately.
Lee Kuan Yew and his people will live in the bubble happily ever after. There will be air conditioning. And the state controlled Straits Times will splash the good news across it's pages. Another milestone earth shattering achievement. Singaporeans living in a bubble with the Water Minister beside them.

Singapore, a very unstable political system
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Singapore today has essentially a very unstable political system. It is more like that of Communist China except that it doesn't admit it.
In China, you have the Chinese Communist Party which essentially is the only lawful government of China. By law, there can be no other system. Therefore China's government continues seamlessly from one to another. Politicians in China aspire for leadership in the Communist Party which entitles them to govern China. China officially admits it is a one party state, with Communist Party being the only party. At least with China, we know where we stand.
Politics in Singapore is essentially the same as that in China, except with one difference. Singapore is a fraud. Outwardly it pretends to be be a multi party democracy with human rights and every other element that represents a democracy. But in truth none of this exists. Lee Kuan Yew's Peoples Action Party has been governing Singapore essentially as a one party state since 1959, and they have no intention whatsoever to allow any other party to govern.
In Singapore just as in China, Lee's government go out spotting talent to join them and lead the island. It has no provision that allows independent leaders to develop on their own with independent views. As far as they are concerned, all leaders are those with the view of the party and if you are otherwise, you have no place in Singapore's politics.
Singapore therefore rests on very fragile foundations because it says one thing and does another. At least in Communist China, they admit they are a one party state, take or leave it. In Singapore on the other hand you have a situation where people do not really know where they stand.
Take my case for instance. During my life, I truly believed that Singapore was a democracy. That is what I was taught in school and no one ever told me otherwise. It was a lie from the very beginning. Which is one reason I returned to Singapore after my education. It was only much later that I realized that all that you see is really not what it seems.
And I think this is the problem with a great many people being fooled all their lives into thinking Singapore was something other than what it is. They would been much better off had they openly admitted that they are another Communist China with Lee Kuan Yew another China's Hu Jintao.
In essence, what Singapore does is to make an entire population into mere charlatans and comedians. Every single one of Singaporeans and those working in the government are engaging in this game of make belief. For instance the guy working for the water department goes about his job diligently trying to solve Singapore's flooding problem.
But he is not concerned one bit that he is not allowed to criticize Lee Kuan Yew, that he has no free press or that he is not allowed to protest all. Neither is he concerned one bit that his fellow citizen Chee Soon Juan has been repeatedly abused through the misuse of the law and other citizens have been jailed and bankrupted for doing things completely legal under the Constitution of the country.
In such circumstances, how much respect can you have for the chief of the water department who goes about his job fixing the water pipes? Any other decent human being in any other country would have taken umbrage against a system that so unjustly treats their fellow citizens.
What you have today in Singapore are people prepared to do their jobs, whether senior level or junior level, completely detached from their own lives as human beings. In effect they are just serving the Lee Kuan Yew family, with their careers and future entirely dependant on how much Lee and and his government is pleased.
Singaporeans no longer have the confidence of living lives under certain rights, which they have none. An Australian goes about his life knowing that he is protected under the law, he is confident in himself and his life, there are judges to protect him if anyone tries to abuse him, and he can rely on the integrity and courage of men in authority for acting honorably when the time comes for judgement. An Australian expects elections to be free and fair, he can expect the right to criticism, and know that Australians do not have to live in fear of their leaders but it is the leaders who have to live in fear of them.
This emboldens an Australian. It gives him pride. It gives respect to his country. Which is why Australians excel. They do what they do because they love it. Not because it pleases anyone.
Under these circumstances, Australians can expect to do their best in whatever endeavor they undertake. They work not to please their political leadership, they work because they love their jobs, they love their lives, and they respect Australia.
None of this can be said of anyone in Singapore. There you work for Lee Kuan Yew, your rights depend on Lee Kuan Yew, you may keep or lose your job depending on Lee Kuan Yew and you may in fact lose everything as Chee Soon Juan, a Singapore critic, has suffered if Lee Kuan Yew is displeased.
In these circumstances firstly you never find the best human beings who would give their best. They are more concerned with pleasing Lee than anything else.
This sort of government is inherently unstable. Lee Kuan Yew is 89 years old and he will die tomorrow. After he is gone, what do people do, try to please his son? And if he is not around, who do we try to please, Teo Chee Hean, his deputy? And even if Teo demands obedience, under what authority of the law is such obedience justified?
Singapore is simply doomed. The whole basis of the country is so distorted and crooked, it is impossible to get it right. Even if Lee Kuan Yew family wanted to rectify this unsatisfactory condition, they are not able to do so.
Singaporeans only know how to live their lives by pleasing their superiors. They do not know how to live according to basic tenets of rights which others in democracies live by. Remember people are not like a light switch which you can turn on or off as you please. You cannot tell people on the one hand to kowtow to authority and the next minute tell them that they are free. Just like the caged animal that you have had for years; even if you let him free, he would probably return to his cage.
The basic foundation upon which Singapore rests is unsound. It is not a country based on integrity and principles of honor. Singapore's judges are crooked because they serve Lee, Singapore's civil servants are crooked because they serve Lee, Singapore's teachers are crooked because they instill fear in their children. To put it simply, the entire island is a fraud. It is therefore unstable and incapable of lasting.

Singapore's state controlled newspapers say they are going to build "mental toughness" in their soldiers! An impossible feat indeed!
Ladies and Gentlemen,
If you have a state controlled newspaper like Lee Kuan Yew has in his Singapore, you become so used to writing anything you want so much so it eventually becomes silly, as in this case.
Singapore state controlled newspaper the Straits Times online edition of Jan 30, 2012has the story "SAF (meaning Singapore Armed Forces) seeks to build mental toughness in recruits". If you knew Singapore, you would laugh at this statement. It would have been easier to make pigs fly!
The story states "A programme to build mental toughness among recruits by teaching them to talk about their emotions and think positively seems to be producing better soldiers, going by a recent study by the Singapore Armed Forces"
It says "the study found that recruits who went through the resilience building programme out jumped outran outshot and out performed those who did not".
If you knew Singapore and the sort of people who live there, you would realize why such a task is impossible.
In Singapore most young men are no better than zombies, strong language but true. You see, they don't realize that they are living in bondage. They don't seem to appreciate that they don't have any civil rights in that Lee Kuan Yew's island. No free speech no right of free expression or simply nothing.
I am not sure they do not know this because they are ignorant, and if they are not, then they don't protest their miserable lives because they are dead afraid of Lee Kuan Yew and what he would do to them; if they dared to protest these injustices.
Now tell me, how in Heavens would a young man, I mean Singaporean, who is dead scared of his government and willingly lives a life of a slave, because he is afraid, fight the enemy in battle if there was one?
Singaporean young men like their parents are living in mortal fear, and no amount of building mental toughness is going to change anything. You might as well try to embolden a rabbit. If the writer wrote this for amusement, I can understand, but please don't insult our intelligence. Singaporean young men are afraid of their own shadows.
Mental toughness, my foot.

Singapore's Lee Kuan Yew, is such a life worthwhile
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Lee Kuan Yew is credited with all sorts of earth shattering achievements; turning a fishing village into a world metropolis and a whole load of other achievements. But really if you ask yourself, has it all been worthwhile? Has any of these achievements been worthwhile at the expense of such pain and and injustice caused to achieve it?
Remember, Chia Thye Poh. He was a man Lee Kuan Yew imprisoned for 31 years, far longer than Nelosn Mandela simply because he refused to admit he was a Communist which he was not. Removed from his family and kept in solitary confinement all those years without trial, he was eventually released in 1998. Tell me was it worth it. All these achievements which are attributed to Lee Kuan Yew by a misinformed international audience cannot justify such inhumanity to his fellow citizen.
Remember Lim Chin Siong. He too was a Lee Kuan Yew critic unjustly imprisoned for decades just because he will not tow the Lee Kuan Yew line. He spent decades in solitary for no crime whatsoever, his sole crime being a Lee Kuan Yew opponent. He too was eventually released and has since died. Was these achievements really worthwhile if it was done at this expense?
And then you had the Marxist conspirators, or Lee Kuan Yew's claim that they were. They were neither Marxist Conspirators nor Violin players. They were simply a group of people who felt Singapore should be a democracy, not a dictatorship under Lee Kuan Yew. We have heard of many in the group who were imprisoned for several years including a Singapore lawyer woman, Teo Soh Lung. She was beaten and repeatedly tortured for refusing to confess that that she was a Communist which she was not. Eventually she was released and her career destroyed. Was it really necessary? What was achieved by this cruelty? Nothing.
Chee Soon Juan, a determined critic of Lee Kuan Yew and former professor of neuropsychology in National University of Singapore, bankrupted, jailed and impoverished and removed from his professorship. Today he ekes out a living selling his books on Singapore's streets. Was it really necessary? Has Lee's achievements justified such cruelty?
I was watching another very evil human being, Henry Kissinger, in a video by the late Christopher Hitchens called The Trials of Henry Kissinger. He was a man responsible for the murders of thousands and millions of innocent people, in Portuguese Timor, Cyprus and Chile and Vietnam. When asked how he justified his actions, his lame excuse was that statesmen would sometimes have to choose between 2 evils. Really? Was Lee Kuan Yew choosing between 2 evils when he jailed Chia Thye Poh for 31 years, when he put Lim Chin Siong in solitatry for decades and when he tortured Teo Soh Lung because she wanted to help the poor and disadvantaged in Singapore?
As for Kissinger, even after the peace accord in Paris in 1973, he continued bombing of Hanoi and Haiphong just to show the Soviet Union that the US can inflict damage and even more damage, in circumstances where he already knew the war was lost.
Men such as Lee Kuan Yew have blood on their hands. Lee Kuan Yew today is 89 years old and he lives on with the memory of the crimes that he committed. As Chee Soon Juan told him in court in 2008, he was very sorry for him. He said "he cuts a pathetic figure". True and well said.
Lee Kuan Yew would have to live the remaining years of his life with his conscience. With the brutality he had inflicted on his fellow man. There is simply no justification for the actions he did. He cannot argue that such cruelty was necessary to bring Singapore to what it is today. In fact Singapore would have been a far better place had he been tolerant of divergent views. It would have been a vibrant democracy and not afflicted with the problems it faces today of massive brain drain, a zero birth rate and an almost extinct local population.
I would have no hesitation to say that the most humble of Singaporeans are far luckier human beings today than the 89 year old Lee Kuan Yew. He has to somehow live with his conscience. I can look into the mirror tomorrow morning with pride. Can Lee Kuan Yew do so without cringing?

Singapore's judges work, instilling fear
Ladies and Gentlemen,
You might have thought that judges in Singapore administer the law. Wrong. Their principle job is keeping people in line, silencing dissent, and making sure Lee Kuan Yew family have no challengers.
The way they do it is by openly abusing the law to punish Lee's political opponents. This way, anyone contemplating such a course thinks twice and stops.
One would have thought that a city state such as this would worry about their reputation if they brazenly go out misusing the law like this, but apparently it does not bother them. At least not so far. With a state controlled press and media, they appear to think it is sufficient to publish a series of articles claiming it has the best legal system in the world. But whether or not anyone actually believes this rubbish is another thing entirely.
In the last 3 decades the late JB Jeyaretnam who died in 2008, coincidentally when I was in prison in Singapore for having written a blog post critical of Lee Kuan Yew's judge Belinda Ang Saw Ean, was the punching bag suffering a series of libel suits and a jail sentence, resulting in his bankruptcy and disbarment. Lately, it was Dr. Chee Soon Juan, suffering the same fate, Alan Shadrake an English author who wrote a book critical of his legal system and myself imprisoned in 2008 and recently disbarred from practicing law in Singapore. In every single one of these cases, the victim had done no wrong. All they did was have the temerity to accuse Lee Kuan Yew or his legal system of dishonesty, which we all know, they are.
But abusing the legal system this way has severe wide ranging consequences which continue to take a toll on Singapore. First it reduces the integrity of the legal system. This can be seen in the number of lawyers in the island, not more than about 3,000 in an island with more than 5 million people. Second, the people are losing trust in the administration, resulting in the lowest birth rates in the world, mounting brain drain and an aging population. These are things a small tiny island with a tiny population can ill afford. Writing a series of articles in Singapore's state controlled newspapers claiming it has the best legal system in the world, is not really doing any good, when the papers themselves have lost all credibility.
In this day and age, unless you are a North Korea, you simply cannot stop this brain drain. Unless foreigners are downright imbeciles, any Frenchman, German or American spending a week in Singapore would go home knowing Singapore is just another North Korea in essence. Using taxpayer's money to build fancy expressways or underground train stations does not impress anyone. Pyongyang has them too.
If Lee Kuan Yew really wants Singapore to be a successful respected city state where it's citizens want to live in, it has to allow people the ability to live as human beings, not as rabbits in fear. But the problem in doing this is this. The moment he opens up society, he will be overthrown, which obviously he does not want. So as long as Lee continues in his stupidity, Gopalan Nairs and hundreds and thousands of others who could have contributed greatly to the island would have all left for good. This is frankly a no brainer.

Singapore. A regime in denial
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Lee Kuan Yew's Singapore today is simply an island living in denial, but it simply refuses to accept it. Simply put, it is an island which continues to govern through brute force, in circumstances where the people are free not to accept such a life.
Just look at this. You have a situation where any criticism of the government would result in a situation like mine, where one has to go into exile. But yet I am no criminal, no pervert or madman, but just an ordinary person who thinks it necessary to speak out on what he thinks are wrong.
So just like me, there are are thousands if not hundreds of thousands who think the same. And realizing what can happen to people like me, like Chee Soon Juan and the late JB Jeyaretnam, what do they do? They do exactly what any sane normal human being would do. They pack up and leave Singapore for good. They emigrate to Australia to Canada or the United States like me.
And the ones who leave are the very best and brightest among Singaporeans, because to emigrate you need some ability. The very ones who a small country like Singapore needs the most.
The Lee Kuan Yew government thinks it can continue by trying to profit from the bad side of human beings like greed. They send many students abroad on scholarships at government expense in the hope that they will return to serve this dictatorial regime because of the huge salaries they will receive. But you see, not everyone is made of that dishonest stock such as Lee Kuan Yew's Ministers Vivian Balakrishnan or K Shanmugam. Most human beings especially those who are in a position to live the lives of their choosing, have some decency and self respect. They are usually unwilling to prostitute themselves like these 2 Ministers do.
Simply put the numbers that return to serve this regime after scholarship education overseas is far too small to run this government. The time had finally come when you cannot expect good people to submit themselves to this sort of dishonesty at any price.
At the end of the day, anyone with eyes can see that this regime continues the way it does to profit themselves and the minions who lick their boots. That is all that is Singapore today. Lee Kuan Yew can try to paint a rosy picture to the rest of the world of efficiency and prosperity as much as they want, but the world is so well informed that no amount of misinformation is going to work.
The sad facts are these. The small tiny island of a mere 5 million people, of which nearly a half are foreigners, suffers from the lowest birth rate in the world, the highest rates of emigration in the world, the biggest income gaps in the world and the fastest aging population in the world. The only way to go on is to continue bringing in massive numbers of foreigners mainly from Communist China in the hope that they would also accept Lee Kuan Yew's Singaporean philosophy of accepting a slavish and uneventful life in return for a living. Such a population would have been all right for an agricultural country like Cambodia but it is not sufficient for an international island without any natural resources like Singapore. Running the island like what Lee Kuan Yew does is trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. In 2012 it simply does not work.
As we speak, the massive brain drain continues, the massive importation of Communist Chinese coolies continues and Lee Kuan Yew behaves as if Gopalan Nair of the Singapore Dissident does not exist. Is this a case of Nero fiddling while Rome burnt?

Singapore. A dehumanized depoliticized silenced robotic people
Ladies and Gentlemen,
In every country in the world, you find people passionate about different things. People who study cars, people who collect stamps, people who follow football, and all sorts of other interests even for an entire lifetime. You have such people in Singapore too. But in other countries you also have people who are passionate about their country, who join political clubs and societies and spend a lifetime furthering what they believe in what their country should be; except in Singapore. This is the one area where there is no one, perhaps just a handful of people, in Singapore.
It is almost as if the entire population is suffering from some sort of schizophrenia.
In Singapore you have very strong organizations that further gay interests, holding meetings and protests and even petitioning their leaders for change; organizations to legalize sodomy; animal rights groups that go around rescuing stray cats and a slew of passionate people for all other causes, except one. Even though the state denies them free speech, freedom of expression, the right of peaceful protest, the right to have a free press, rights which are so important but yet, there is almost noone interested in it. A very strange sort of situation indeed, something which you can never find anywhere else in the world!
I am not sure if this is an Asian Confucian trait or are they downright confused. Why is it that people in Singapore can be so passionate about legalizing sodomy but are completely happy to live under a dictatorship.
You see this strange sort of behavioural patterns in the island. For instance, people who would be celebrated as heroes in any other country, men like Chee Soon Juan and the late JB Jeyaretnam, nothing less than freedom fighters are hardly spoken about. Nothing is written about them, no one is fighting for them and the government has in fact managed to turn them into criminals.
But yet, even though the world is now a very small place, and Singaporeans who live under such circumstances can in fact leave, and admittedly many do leave; yet you find some, in fact far too many, who willingly permit themselves to be imprisoned under this authoritarianism; why, one will never understand.
And that is why only idiots and fools would ever want to willingly live in such conditions and educate their children in such a weird socio political system.
And the good thing since I left Singapore, first for England for my education and later to America to live, is coming to realize how stupid the entire island was. Frankly I too was brainwashed to a large extent and it took some time out of the island of Singapore to realize that there is something which is terribly wrong in Lee Kuan Yew's Singapore. I guess I was one of the lucky ones to get out of Singapore. Truly, the most important thing in the world is to be able to think straight and that is the crime that Lee Kuan Yew and his bully boys perpetrate on his people.
And as for writing this, which is something no Singapore can ever dare to do. They live their lives walking around like zombies in Lee Kuan Yew's island.

Singapore not a country one would want to live
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Singapore is just one big fraud. And underneath all that glitter, it is really not a place someone who had a choice would want to live.
On the outside Singapore's Lee Kuan Yew paints a picture of a modern first class city. You have TV newsreaders who try to speak good English imitating someone from any other city like London, but with one difference. Those in London are free of government censorship while the Singaporean specimen reads out prepared texts vetted by government agencies. You have newspapers published in glossy paper just like in London, except in Singapore they are state owned and controlled, where journalists report to government ministers on what they have plan to write. You see lawyers all dressed in black dragging modern briefcases with books overflowing with wisdom, but in actual fact they are more afraid of the government than their clients ever were.
If you fall into hard times you starve unless you go to some government minister's office and beg on all fours for a handout. In the west there are established procedures for welfare for the unfortunate in society to live with their heads up.
Singapore has no place for people who want to better society towards a more humane and compassionate one. The political philosophy is that of Lee Kuan Yew which is not very different perhaps from how the Chinese peasants lived under the Ming or Tang Dynasty many centuries ago. Which goes something like this. You wake up in the morning, go to work, be respectful towards your rulers and superiors, don't think you know any better than your masters and work your way up the ladder through the recognition of your superiors. Of course above all your superiors there is the great master or leader who is better and wiser than all. In the case of the Chinese Dynasty, it was the Ming or Tang emperor. In the case of Singapore, it is Lee Kuan Yew and in his absence, his son.
I am sorry but this is not the way I like to live. And neither do I think anyone who has an understanding of the way things are going on in the island and has the means to live somewhere else.
So what is left of native Singaporeans are those who simply cannot leave because of lack of skills or an understanding of their plight or those who are not concerned about living as free men an women as long as they earn sufficiently large amounts of money. In this group are the Lee Kuan Yew minions who stay behind.
You have of course the foreign Western businessmen and professionals who do business in the island. For them it is only a case of making money. They are naturally not concerned about how they live their lives since it is not their country and they are there for short periods, when they will go hone to France, Germany or the USA. Most of them leave their families at home in the West and even if they bring them here, they study at foreign schools with their German, Italian or American teachers. As far as they are concerned, they despise Singaporeans for a cowardly people, willing to live as slaves in Lee Kuan Yew's island, which they would not in America, Germany or France.
Then there are the middle level professionals, some from England, Australia, India and other places. For a variety of reasons, they spend some time in Singapore working as engineers, bank officers, and executives. They too are totally unconcerned about how Singaporeans have to live their lives since they are here temporarily. In 6 months, if they got a better job in Rangoon Burma, they would spend some time there if possible.
In the end, all you have in Singapore at the upper levels is the revolving door phenomenon. People come in for a time, and then leave, only to be replaced by other people who come in and who themselves leave too.
If there are going to be anyone left behind to run the place, it is the handful of sycophants and crawlers who willingly take orders from above as to what to do, regardless of right or wrong. And their numbers are shrinking too, as Singapore students leave for a foreign education and opt to remain where they are. Singapore is reaching a point where it cannot find sufficiently capable people to run the show and this is entirely because of what Singapore is today, a life of submission and obedience, which people with an education find unacceptable.
Unless the native Singaporeans who have a stake in the country take drastic real earth shattering action to demand a democratic system of government, literally taking Lee Kuan Yew to task, I don't see him doing anything to arrest the decline into which Singapore is sliding.

Singapore. A country that has gone backwards
Ladies and Gentlemen,
True Singapore today has skyscrapers. It did not in 1955. But truly, Singapore was far more advanced in 1955 than it is today. Surprised? You shouldn't be. Just look at this.
In 1955 Singapore had a free press. You could read independent news. People could criticize the government without being arrested. There was no Lee Kuan Yew bullying everyone into submission. People could look forward to work and a pension and retirement. If you did something wrong, you got a small fine, not several hundreds of thousands of dollars. Life was good. People were happy. You could see it in their faces.
Today you cannot do any of this. If you criticized you would be sued and arrested. People have to work until they dropped dead. Judges are not independent but Lee's agents. You don't have jury trials and if you were not on Lee's side there is double trouble from all sides.
Please take your silly skyscrapers and give me Singapore of 1955 anytime. And while at it, take your superman Lee Kuan Yew with you, please.
Tell me now, which country in the world has actually gone backwards except Lee Kuan Yew's Singapore?

Singapore Lee Kuan Yew's monopoly on corruption
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Singapore's state controlled newspaper has the continuing story of 2 men in Lee's government being investigated for corruption. Straits Times online edition of Jan 25, 2012, carries this story under the title "CPIB probe: Ministry and Home Team will cooperate fully, says MHA". It is about Peter Lim Sin Pang, the chief of Singapore Civil Defence Force and Ng Boon Gay, the Director of Singapore's Narcotics department being investigated for corruption.
All very nice to read. I suppose another feather on Singapore strongman Lee Kuan Yew's cap as a fighter against corruption.
But then who is the most corrupt individual in Singapore? You will be surprised to know that it is none other than Lee Kuan Yew himself. First of all, he pays himself officially $3.7 million a year and treble that amount secretly as his salary. What do you call that then? I call this corruption of the worst kind. Even if the aforesaid Lim and Ng stole some money, surely it cannot amount to the several millions that Lee himself steals on a yearly basis without fail. And secondly at least they had the decency to do it secretly. In Lee's case, he not only steals, but does it before his people's very eyes.
Do you recall the Jade Mansions scandal some years ago, when he, his late wife, and every one of his children got huge discounts to purchase Jade condominiums at specially discounted prices which the public never got. When Tang Liang Hong, an opposition politician had the temerity to mention this fact at the 1997 elections, Lee not only sued him in his courts where victory is certain, he had to pay several million dollars in court awarded damages, bankrupted and forced into exile. Today poor Tang, who was once a millionaire himself ekes out a living in Melbourne Australia.
What is disgusting about the entire Lee family is this. They not only are thieves, they take offense when you call them so.
The one other dictator that comes to mind to the disgraceful extent of Lee's baseness is the former Iranian king Reza Shah Pahlevi who ruled from 1925 to 1941, a carbon copy of the Singaporean tin pot tyrant. In his case, it is often said that one good thing he did was to root out corruption entirely in Iran except for one person, himself. Under his harsh rule, with draconian laws, anyone found pilfering even the slightest amount faced harsh sentences and even execution. But then anything that was worth anything in Iran belonged to himself with a few crumbs thrown to his sycophants. The way he managed to govern was with harsh laws and fear.
And by the way have you ever wondered why noone else dares to write this in Singapore? You guessed right. He would be sued, arrested, bankrupted and jailed which is why he dares not write. In my case, I write from Fremont (San Francisco) California, which makes it a little difficult for him to successfully sue because California unlike Lee's Singapore has the rule of law.
It would be correct to say, Lee Kuan Yew is Singapore's Reza Shah Pahlevi.

Singapore government should be liable for flood damage
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Anyone taking the trouble to look at Singapore's state controlled newspapers would know that flooding has become almost a daily occurrence each time it rains, and even though their reports never fail to use words such as "flash floods" and not just "floods" to impress upon the reader of their short duration, it is no denying the fact that businessmen are suffering losses each time it occurs and just because the flooding is not prolonged, is results in financial loss nevertheless.
Orchard Road, the prime shopping belt appears the floods greatest victim, especially so since every single store there is upmarket and of the luxury variety, which means millions of dollars in loss each time the Heavens open up over Singapore.
Not just Orchard Road but throughout Singapore businesses continue to suffer heavy losses almost on a daily basis, and because of the frequency of such downpours and floods, insurers are no longer prepared to carry the risk, which means the businesses are uninsured.
We are not just talking about merchandise, but water damage is caused in a multitude of other ways, such as hundreds of motor cars ruined, some of the very luxury variety, electrical and machinery ruined and losses mounting.
What astonishes me is this. Except for the island's newspapers to report such flooding, they seem to be doing nothing. For one we all know that their plans such as building rooftop reservoirs is so much hogwash, expected of any government which has now finally run out ideas. Someone has to tell them that it is not enough just to report such grandiose balderdash, it is necessary also to do something for those suffering losses like this.
If anyone is searching for responsibility, it surely rests solely on this government's shoulders. It is they who had given planning permission to build in such areas. It is they who had constructed such inadequate drainage insufficient to carry the flood run off. It is they who ignored the warnings on climate change. It is they who should have advised Singaporeans to live only on higher land, of what little land that is left in the tiny island, and leave the low laying areas to the birds.
But they never did any of this, which, they as a government should have done. And there is a word in law for people such as this. It is the "n" word, "negligence". And for negligence, a defendant has to pay and pay big time.
Therefore unless all these shop owners and businessmen are nothing but a bunch of cowardly spineless fools who are afraid to take on Lee Kuan Yew and son on their liability, I would strongly suggest a series of negligence actions in the Singapore High Court against Lee Kuan Yew and his ilk for multi million dollar claims. If the court finds otherwise, at least you would have put your case forward and make them look very small indeed.
As we speak, we hear of another spate of flooding in different parts of Singapore while Lee Kuan Yew's million dollar ministers merely give out their usual excuses. Yes we do know that it is due to global warming. But you knew that too. Then why in Heavens did you grant planning permission to Lucky Plaza and Liat Towers for instance? Any answers, or have you opted on the Fifth, as you petty minions always do, because you are not accountable to anyone, as dictatorships always are.
Come on, is it raining?

Singapore. The final days for Indians and Malays
Ladies and Gentlemen,
If K Shanmugam, Lee Kuaan Yew's hand picked Singapore Indian Law Minister was discerning to any extent, he should know his days in authority run only as long as Lee Kuan Yew's life. Once Lee is dead, the Singapore Indian's position of Minister would slowly also die and he would, like others of his Tamil kind, slowly disappear into oblivion. With Lee's demise, Singapore's multi racial picture would also slowly cease to exist.
From the time of Singapore's independence and even before, the historical understating was always that Singapore was and is a multi racial country, reflecting the main enthicities that were living in the island, with a slight majority of Chinese and the other half roughly divided between Indians and Malays.
To support this foundational understanding, laws were enacted to give effect to the four languages, Malay Chinese Tamil and English, with English being the main business language because it was felt that Singapore would advance with it rather than with the other languages and scant lip service was also done in the Constitution demanding racial equality.
However, as we have seen, Lee Kuan Yew has had different plans, and lately even more so. Of course we cannot know what he is thinking but my belief is this. Being a Sinophile, to coin the word similar to an Anglophile, someone who is enamoured with Chinese culture traditions and greatness, especially since it appears to be the fastest growing economy today, Lee Kuan Yew it appears has decided to throw in his lot with Communist China, as a second fiddle of sorts. I suppose his thinking is that when China becomes dominant and super powerful, it would also lift Singapore, it's obedient servant.
Therefore he has deliberately decided to make Singapore into a Chinese dominated island, not a Western English speaking island. To this end, he brings in planeloads of Chinese from mainland China as we speak, to deliberately upset the ethnic make up of the island. Today, Singapore Indians who once were about 30% of the population has been reduced to no less than 8% or 9% while the Malays who are the real natives of the island have shrunk to no more than 13%, the vast majority being Chinese.
Today, it is possible for someone not only to live but also do business in Singapore by knowing only Chinese, something that one could not even have imagined before; English is really not necessary. Government clerks speak Chinese, bus conductors speak Chinese and if you wanted to set up a business, it can be done entirely in Chinese. As for English, one only needs it for the odd letter or 2 sent to a government office, which can easily be accomplished with some help, but otherwise, Singapore today is entirely a Chinese city.
But in spite of that, you may wonder why we have government Ministers such as Lee Kuan Yew's Law Minister Shanmugam being a Tamil Singaporean, a dark face in a sea of yellow faces. You also see a couple of Malay Ministers and other Indians such as the Ministers Iswaran and Tharman Shanmugaretnam. The reason for this is simple. It is not because an ethnic Chinese does not have the qualifications to do the job, but because it helps to appease the island's Indian population by showing that they are not forgotten, even though in reality, they are.
But I can assure you that this charade that goes in Lee Kuan Yew's Singapore is not going to last. If Shanmugam is still Minister, it is not going to be lasting career, i can assure you that. I reckon a sea change is going to come over Singapore once Lee kicks the bucket. Lee Kuan Yew's Chinese Ministers not only don't see the need to continue with this game of make believe with these handful of Indian faces in authority, the newer Chinese politicians have no understanding or even the appreciation of a multi racial Singapore. To them, Singapore today is a predominantly Chinese society with Chinese language and culture; it is not a multi racial island.
And with Lee's passing, the last remnant of the dinosaur days of Singapore and it's multi racial past will also slip into oblivion; the Chinese politicians will speak henceforth in Chinese to their Chinese masses who would naturally say that there is no longer any need for the likes of this Tamil bootlicker Shanmugam and other such like ceremonial figures; and the only thing left to do would be to say good riddance. It would be the same with the other handful of Indians and Malays with titled jobs and money. The Chinese don't need you. You don't speak their language and you have nothing to give. So it is going to be Adios.
This is not intended as an attack on Singaporean Chinese by any means but just a logical prediction of things to come. It is the same with any other society had they been in the majority. For instance if Singapore was predominantly English then English would be preferred, so with German, French or any other racial group for that matter. It is natural for people of a race to be comfortable with others who are like them, especially a Chinese society which has an illustrious history.
I am afraid, with a few speeches in cultured Mandarin or Hokkien to the Chinese masses of Singaporeans, the Malays and Indians would be history. There simply won't be anymore Indian Ministers in Chinese Singapore. I am not sure whether I should be happy or sad to see this happen. But I am certainly happy to say, I told you so.

Singapore. Orchard Road the flood ridden shopping mall. Whose fault is it?
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Dictatorships who think they know best, sooner or later create a mess. And it usually a very big mess.
Anyone following Singapore's state controlled newspapers (they are all state controlled) will read of repeated, almost weekly flooding in Orchard Road, Singapore's prime shopping district where millions of dollars, belonging to both crooks and drug lords (the residence of choice is Singapore for Burmese drug lords and Indonesian bank thieves) are spent in luxury shopping.
Gucci Cartier and Rolex are all there but now with a problem. The entire area is flooding and their luxury merchandise is being water damaged on a regular basis.
And whose fault is it? Not Mother Nature because it was not God who decided to build all these shopping malls in the lowest lying area in that small island, it was Lee Kuan Yew and his dictatorship.
This is a perfect example of what happens when a government is unaccountable to anyone as dictatorships are, like Singapore.
They made no attempt to look into the possibility of global warming even though there was ample warning about this for decades. This calamity would not have occurred had Singapore been a democracy because then there would have been conflicting voices with diverse opinions heard, even that of Gopalan Nairs out there who would have possibility said that building in Orchard Road was a bad idea. Very bad indeed.
And this flooding curse in Singapore which is going to become progressively worse for Singapore should be a lesson to all these petty thugs and tyrants like Lee Kuan Yew out there. There is always a very painful prize to pay when you walk around like Mike Tyson bullying everyone in your way. Sooner or later you will find yourself in the corner from which there is no escape.

Singapore's legal profession painting a rosy picture in the state controlled press
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Today Singapore's Parliament is comprised entirely of Lee Kuan Yew party members, with 6 helpless toothless and powerless opposition members as against his 81, and with a majority like this, Singapore is in fact non other than a pure one party state, just as the Soviet Union was, which means he can pass any law he wants, repeal any law he wants and do literally anything he wants anytime with noone to question whatsoever.
Which is why in Singapore, there is no individual freedoms to speak of. Freedom of speech is criminalized, protests are criminalized and any form of criticism readers the person to arrest imprisonment and bankruptcy under his laws as they stand.
As for the courts, there are no jury trials and ever single judge is singularly handpicked for his willingness to abuse the laws to send any of his critics and opponents to jail anytime he wants he wants for any length of time Lee desires, under Lee's laws.
So in truth Singaporeans are totally helpless to question his authority. It is possible for someone to live in Singapore but it comes with the proviso that this is possible only as long as you are willing to be completely and entirely subservient obedient and compliant.
These are the facts.
However, if this is in fact known to the world, he and his Singapore are not going to look very nice at all. He wants to attract foreign investment, he wants to attract foreign students to study in Singapore and he wants skilled foreigners to work and live in Singapore. If indeed these dire secrets are known publicly, it is going to be an impediment to his grandiose plans of a global city, one that has all manner of foreigners but at the same time, one that is under his iron grip.
Therefore he desperately needs to spin a yarn and keep the charade going. He has to convince people that Singapore is something which it is not. He has to try to make people believe that his Singapore is a democracy, where it's citizens can live as they live in London, Paris or Rome as a free people.
And to pursue this plan, he uses his state controlled newspapers to regularly spin a yarn about the island being a free and liberal society, which if you looked more carefully, will realize it is nothing but so much drivel, or horse dung.
Remember, in addition to Singapore being a one party state, his judges are all there to do as he wants. Now if you add another organ of power to his total control, which is the press and media, Lee Kuan Yew finally has everything he needs to keep his people eternally under his grip, unless of course there is a revolution.
As if controlling Parliament and the judiciary is not enough, Singapore's press media and the entire mass communication system is state owned. Every newspaper, every TV and radio station, every magazine has to print exactly what he wants and nothing else. If they did not obey, their licenses would be revoked and their owners sent to jail.
As far as the press is concerned, every single newspaper is owned and controlled by Singapore Press Holdings, a government owned company, whose daily activities are supervised and directed by government ministers. Every TV and radio station is directly owned and operated by the government. Every private magazine needs a permit and if something that Lee does not like appears in them, the publications are banned and their editors prosecuted.
With all this control Singapore is in fact no better or no worse that North Korea. So the need to paint a picture of independence and freedom in these propaganda sheets, so as to make the law look better than what it is.
The reader should also remember that under Singapore's Singapore's criminal law, any criminal accused has no chance at all, once arrested. Please read my earlier blog on its shameful state. After arrest a criminal accused is denied counsel for several days while the police interrogate and torture him. Once they get the confession, which they always do sooner or later, they then hand him over to his lawyer who by that time can do nothing for him since he has already confessed.
Under these ridiculous Alice in Wonderland legal system, Lee and his government regularly put out "news" or more correctly described as propaganda stories in praise of their legal profession. Take this case. The State controlled newspaper the Straits times online edition of Jan 15, 2012 has the story "Young lawyers starting early on pro bono legal work". It talks of Singapore's lawyers increasing doing more pro bono work.
Ms June Lim, a lawyer is stated as saying "doing pro bono work is the reason why I am a lawyer". Really? The report says "Students and young lawyers like Ms Lim 25 whose focus is juvenile and family law work, help those in need of legal aid for free". All very nice indeed. But someone should ask, what for? What can any of these lawyers do anyway, as eventually the cases have to come before Singapore's judges who are there only to make sure that noone gets away and Lee Kuan Yew is pleased.
Take this story in Lee's state controlled press. The Straits Times of Jan 15, 2012 online edition has the story, "Panel of advisers gives law firm market perspective". The story is written by the 61 year old veteran propaganda agent (Singapore's definition of journalist) KC Vijayan. He was formerly a prison officer and with the mass resignations over the years from Lee's generally disgraced newspapers, they were looking for anyone to fill the vacancies which was when men such as him got hired. Since then, for the past 20 years or so, he has obediently written these reports which were nothing more than regular attempts to make Lee's newspapers look as if they were something they were not.
In this report, it is mentioned that a Law firm called Law Asia has set up office in Singapore and employed a panel of advisers who are non lawyers to help their services. It seems the job of these advisers are to report to the lawyers what the public thinks of them so as to improve their performance. It goes on to talk of their network of important people and connections abroad including universities and banks and engineering companies. It also states that it has connections with important people in South Africa and other far flung places and a whole lot of other self praise or in essence advertising.
Frankly anyone who can think logically would have probably asked the question as to why Lee Kuan Yew's state controlled press is giving free advertising to this particular law firm and secondly even if all that was said about them was true, how is this story even remotely newsworthy?
Why in Heavens should I be interested to know that Law Asia has a whole panel of advisers? They should be practicing law, not going around engaging advisers; at least that is what I thought a lawyer was supposed to do. This story is simply rubbish, there is no other word for it. In any case, have you ever asked yourself since Lee's judges can do anything with the law anytime they want in pleasing the Singapore government, what can any fancy lawyer do about anything anyway?
Then we have this story in the same state controlled newspaper of Jan 13, 2012 headed "Good if Attorney General explains charge decisions lawyers say". This is a story by the same propaganda purveyor KC Vijayan who reports on the right of the Attorney General to exercise prosecutorial discretion.
The story reports lawyers and academics have suggested it as a good thing for the Attorney General to state his reasons which arose from a case involving Singapore's intent to execute a petty drug mule (Singapore has the highest execution rate in the world given it's size) while reprieving his accomplice.
All this talk about law and procedure is a total waste of time in Singapore if anyone knew it's legal system, which is not accountable to law but to Lee Kuan Yew. This is another attempt to give the impression that there is a whole lot of dialogue and discussion about Singapore's laws, as one would expect in a democratic country, when in actual fact, in the end, it is what the judge decides whichever way he wants in Lee Kuan Yew's island according to Lee Kuan Yew's wishes, simple as that.
I only hope that the readers would be more aware of the game this fellow is playing in his state controlled press with this sort of drivel which he hopes will be believed by gullible foreigners who may not know what the real Singapore is.

Singapore's ideal citizen; quiet humble and obedient.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Over the years, looking at Singapore's population, I have asked the question, what it takes to be successful in Singapore? The answer to that is to be liked by Lee Kuan Yew. And what sort of human being does Lee Kuan Yew like? Someone who passes his exams in school, who is obedient to his parents and his government (Lee), who is quiet and does not make too much noise about anything and someone who is humble when he meets his superiors. I think having read a little of the Chinese wise man Confucius, these are the qualities to succeed under the Ming Emperor 2000 years ago. But these are also the qualities that Lee Kuan Yew looks for in his citizens, on which I fail miserably on all counts.
I am not quiet or humble or obedient. I am always looking to challenge authority because I believe, and truly so, that I am smarter than Lee Kuan Yew and it is absolutely necessary to continue exposing the man because he is nothing but a dictator.
Which explains why they had to put me in jail for 3 months for criticizing his corrupt judge Belinda Ang Saw Ean in 2008, have me deported from his island and disbarred from practicing law there.
Surely I can understand why all these terrible things are happening to me. Gopalan Nairs are not good for Lee Kuan Yew and his government because we talk too much and we have too many ideas, not all similar to his.
But you know what I am enjoying every minute of it, because people are reading what I write. Surely there can be nothing more rewarding than that. And bit by bit, people are being persuaded the other way, not into thinking this guy is some kind of superman, but actually some kind of a Singaporean rat.

Singapore. Lee Kuan Yew has no answer to the Singapore Dissident.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
If Singapore's purpose is to stop people criticizing them, so as not to derail their plans of continuing their grip over the citizens, they are totally ineffective with the likes of Gopalan Nair and his blog Singapore Dissident.
In 2008 while I was visiting the island for a short trip, they not only arrested me and sent me to jail for writing the sort of stuff I do here, they managed also to stop me from blogging and even from visiting members of the Singapore Democratic Party on the grounds that I, as a foreigner, am interfering in their domestic politics, a very thin excuse since I am a Singaporean through and through having been born in the island and spent nearly all my life there.
But the point I am making is this. They don't want me to write anything critical of their regime and they will arrest me if they can. Their intent is that local Singaporeans who live under their grip should not be allowed to read this sort of thing. Fair enough. But why is it that if I did the very same thing from outside, which more and more Singaporeans are reading as well as the rest of the world are doing, they take no action to have me stopped?
Surely whether I am physically within Singapore is not the point. What they want is Singaporeans should not read the criticism that I write. So it appears their purpose is entirely defeated because not only that I continue writing, I have been emboldened by my safety in being abroad.
So frankly, all the actions to have me jailed and disbarred and deported from Singapore have all been in vain. They might as well have left me alone, thinking of it in hindsight, as nothing has been achieved by all their punishments. They have as I see written a few articles tarnishing my name in the Internet and reported that I have been disbarred from practicing there, but the moment, they read of what I write here, and with a little bit more of outside reading, they will find out that the real rat is not Gopalan Nair but this Lee Kuan Yew regime that is trying to muzzle and suppress the aspirations of their people for freedom.
It looks like they have no lawful recourse against Gopalan Nair and his blog. Have they thought of an extra judicial killing? Or are they incapable of that?

Singapore. Dictatorships look good till their last 10 minutes
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Although you may call it anything else, those who understand Singapore know there is no better word to describe it, just dictatorship. All you have to give the semblance of a democracy is rigged elections every 5 years where the results are known even before the votes are counted. They win and everyone else loses. And between the 5 years till the next 5 years, the average citizen is completely ignored, as if he never existed in the first place.
And just like dictatorships all over the world, the entire media in the island is state controlled. In other words except for blogs written from outside Singapore,(you will be arrested if you criticize from within Singapore) what you read or hear is exactly what they want you to read or hear. Which is why, since the state can say anything they want and there is no one to challenge you, the rosy picture can continue to be rosy up till their last day.
So it is with Lee Kuan Yew's Singapore. Poor Lee Kuan Yew and his Singapore which has a dictatorial regime in today's 21 century, a square peg trying fit into a round hole, is facing impossible odds. Yet you will not read any of it, in his state controlled media.
I think many Singaporeans are already aware that with Big Boy's all 89 years of age, Singapore will not last after he goes. So they are not taking anymore risks by staying on. They are cashing their chips as fast as they can (an appropriate description for an island that lives off vice including gambling) and pulling out altogether.
I have heard there are massive resignations from top posts across all government departments, especially in the Police Force, resulting in their having to promote corporals to Superintendents of Police with just 10 grade education. The Civil service especially the legal service and the Attorney Generals Chambers are facing huge losses in manpower in their top posts.
And they are all scrambling in a mad rush, filling out forms to emigrate, to Australia or any other Western country, so they and their children can live free; not in the chicken coop where Lee struts around like a prize rooster bullying everyone in his way.
As far as the brain drain to the West is concerned, the government has given up hope. They understand no matter what they say, people are fed up and worried and they are going to leave no matter what. So the govt tries to do the second best thing, trying to keep overseas Singaporeans connected to Singapore, but even that is not working. Once they leave, all they say to Singapore is good riddance.
Lee Kuan Yew government faced with these unprecedented job losses and brain drain are now in a fix. They simply don't have enough people and you cannot simply give a readily available Chinese peasant who just arrived from Communist China who knows no English the job of an administrator.
They want to try to avoid giving these jobs to Westerners who come to Singapore for a temporary Asian experience since they may not be prepared to run around like one of Lee Kuan Yew's running dogs as Singaporeans do.
I think the message is already on the wall. This is the worry of the ones who are leaving. Singapore may turn out to be a very different place once Lee dies. First it may be chaos and disorder but even in time, it is unlikely to recover since far too many educated Singaporeans continue to leave the island. You simply cannot have a modern Singapore with just Chinese coolies just arrived from the villages in Mainland China.
This is how Lee Kuan Yew, the Singaporean miracle man, as some people mistakenly think of him, has ruined the island of Singapore.

Singapore. The need for peaceful protests and civil disobedience
Ladies and Gentlemen,
In Singapore, there is no better time than now to demand your rights and civil liberties. Since the last 52 years of Lee Kuan Yew's rule, he has not and will not listen to anything you say, simple as that, regardless of how unfair it may seem, or so it seemed. The man is now 89 years old, and it appears, finally he is on the defensive. I think he realises that the world has changed so much from what he was used to in 1959. The opening up of the Internet, more overseas travel, and the world becoming more connected does mean that it is no longer possible to isolate your people unless you want to be a North Korea which he cannot do. Today, I suspect that if you push for your rights, he cannot act in the roughshod way he has been doing these long years.
For instance, you know that only last week his government and his son have finally agreed to lower their outrageous salaries of $3.7 million a year and stealing another equally large sum is wrong. He has given the order to have it reduced to a slightly less outrageous sum to about $1 1/2 million, at least acknowledging indirectly that this is corruption, not salaries.
Remember, he would not have agreed to this without the overwhelming criticism in this blog Singapore Dissident, other blogs on the Internet and the outcry of the Singapore Democratic Party. So you can see that pressing for change does work, if you sustain without let up your demands.
There are many burning issues that he completely ignores, thinking as he does that there is nothing you can do to stop him. Firstly, there is the issue of disproportionally large numbers of Chinese immigration from Communist China, effectively turning Singapore into a satellite Communist China city. This is not only a violation of the rights of the Singapore Indians and Singapore Malays, equal citizens under the law, but also a violation of the Constitution which requires equal treatment of the races.
Second there is the issue of corruption in the judiciary. You can see for decades that Lee's judges have not only been judges, but more so PAP politicians, by using their judicial office to punish legitimate criticism of opposition politicians such as JB Jeyaretnam, Chee Soon Juan and myself Gopalan Nair. The people should demand that the judiciary stop abusing and prostituting their offices to please Lee Kuan Yew.
Third, you have the state sanctioned racial discrimination against Malays and Indians through employers demanding knowledge of Mandarin in hiring advertisements, which is a deliberate veiled practice to keep them out, since the jobs almost in every case does not require it's knowlede. The law has to prohibit employers from denying jobs to Indian and Malays through this dirty practice.
Fourth the issue of national service. Today we have the bizarre situation where being a Singapore citizen is in fact a disadvantage in your own country. A citizen has to do national service whereas foreigners who are given employment visas indiscriminately do not have to do national service, yet they have equal opportunities in employment but even worse, they get the jobs first over Singaporeans because employers prefer them for not having to do national service.
Fifth, you have several thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of young Singapore men living permanently abroad in exile unable to return because if they did, they would be arrested for not having done national service. Many of these young men find themselves in this unfortunate situation through no fault of their own as they were taken abroad by their parents as babies. Punishing them now for something their parents did is completely unjust, especially since the vast majority of them have no desire to live in Singapore anymore having had a taste of life in the West.
Lastly for every injustice that you face in Lee Kuan Yew's Singapore, there is in effect no recourse. There is no appeals procedure if you are denied a HDB flat except to go begging to your PAP Member of Parliament, there is no appeals procedure if you were denied a taxi license, a foodstall licence, a lawyer's license, with almost everything you are completely at the mercy of Lee Kuan Yew and his friends at the top. Unless you go begging for help, there is no way you can get it.
Therefore, sitting down and doing nothing, as you have done so far, simply means you are going to continue living in bondage. You don't have to do this. You can protest. And Singapore is the best place in the world to do this. It is a sardine packed country where any action you take would be known throughout the island in minutes. I have over the years repeatedly advocated peaceful protests and civil disobedience which the Lee Kuan Yew government deplores because they know how effective this can be. True, there may be some consequences from the government if you were to do this, but in my opinion, Lee Kuan Yew and his government is so weak now, and the disaffection among the population so widespread that it is unlikely he will or can do anything against you if you did.
To all my Singapore friends who cherish your freedom, it is time to take some real action for change. Peaceful protests and civil disobedience is the answer for Singaporeans yearning to be free.

Singapore. Indians and Malays should stand up now
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Singapore strongman Lee Kuan Yew has carefully over the years made sure, through repeated threats of arrest and imprisonment against any attempt by Singapore Indians and Malays standing up for their rights; while at the same time, he deliberately continues not only to diminish their numbers, but to destroy every single bit of language, customs and traditions that they ever had.
For example, the Malays in the past formed as many as half the Singapore population. Today despite the fact that they have the largest families, their numbers have dwindled to as few as 18% or so, while the Indians today form only 8% and steadily declining. Lee's deliberate racial cleansing policy has been to destroy both the Indian and Malay populations in Singapore and this he does by bringing in planeloads of Chinese peasants daily (the educated ones rather go to the USA) making the Chinese portion of the population a thumbing 78% and rising. At this rate there won't be anymore Malays or Indians left.
At the same time, you have the growing half breed population of mixed race, especially between Singapore Chinese women and Indian fathers. Lee Kuan Yew's Minister Vivian Balakrishnan is a product of such a union. I am not against anyone marrying anyone else, but the sad part of it is, it destroys the culture. Balakrishnan I understand knows no Tamil, which his father was, and knows nothing else other than just English, and unfortunately he is not an Englishman either.
In Singapore a large part of the Indian population is of mixed breed, a proportion which is growing, many looking more Chinese than Indian and none of them know the language, or anything else about being Indian.
Not just by the overwhelming immigration from Communist China but also through the union of Chinese women and Indian men, the Indian Singapore population is on the precipice of complete extinction.
And the fault for this lies in Singapore's Indian and Malay leaders such as Gandhi Ambalam and Jufrie Mahmood. Both of them should look not only to further the interests of Singaporeans as a whole, they should give a thought to their fellow Malays and Indians who have no other champions other than them, everyone else being thoroughly marginalized, silenced and sidelined through fear.
It is necessary now for Indian and Malay leaders to form their own organizations to fight for the interests of their own race. And I believe, so should the Singapore Chinese as they too are being drowned by this Lee Kuan Yew conspiracy to flood the island through Communist Chinese human imports, which I am sure they don't like either.
I am sure if Jufrie or Gandhi were to do this, Singapore's bully boy would surely call them racists and chauvinists, but truly, they are no such thing. Fighting for your kinsmen when Singapore is trying to destroy you, is not being racial. It is not only honorable, it is admirable.
