Singapore. A place bad for your soul.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Truly, life in Singapore is detrimental to your spirit; if you can leave Singapore with your family, it would be the best thing you ever did, not just for yourselves but especially for your children.

Living in Singapore, one may not realize this, but any time out of Singapore would tell you this.

A life in Singapore is best described as one where you go to work and fend for your family while Lee Kuan Yew's government decides everything else for you. They build flats for you, decide where you live, what jobs you can have, what salary you will receive, whether you should be fired or employed, in other words everything; and your job is simply to go along with anything they do to you.

Even if you disagree, there is nothing you can do, since the 2 miserable opposition Members in Parliament, are in effect PAP members, out of which 82 are Lee Kuan Yew's men, and they are incapable of doing anything for you.

Fear consumes your life. If you openly criticize the government, you may be arrested or all sorts of other harm real or imaginary may befall you. This dampens your spirit, this stifles your enthusiasm and you turn yourself into a frustrated caged animal, devoid of humanity.

Your children fare no better. Terrified parents instill a similar fear in their children, fear of authority, fear to question and the necessity to conform one's actions to suit their political masters.

In the end both parent and child have deformed and maladjusted personalities, with all the goodness of humanity, courage and integrity extracted. You end up as lesser humans compared to others elsewhere in the world.

You can see this everywhere in the island. In any meeting, Singaporeans dare not publicly speak or raise questions. In school Singapore students are never seen to ask any questions or comment on anything. In a public place, if you hear a child speak to her parents, it is probably not a Singaporean child.

A Singaporean spends his entire lifetime conforming his actions and speech to what his masters want to hear. Success depends on being recognized as a conformist, not as a rebel.

And that is why Lee Kuan Yew and his friends hate Gopalan Nair. He simply refuses to be like everybody else. He is not supposed to be criticizing the judiciary, his Attorney General, his newspapers and his dictatorship. Similarly he hates Dr. Chee Soon Juan and his political party because he too refuses to conform to his liking. This sort of criticism and activism is unacceptable to him, and so he punishes us.

But the rest of the Singaporean population are not punished because they behave as expected of them, as compliant obedient souls.

This sort of living, I can tell you is bad for you and bad for your children. This submissive attitude will carry over in every other aspect of their lives anywhere else in the world. Singaporeans will not succeed in competition with an American or Australian worker with this sort of mentality. They will lack leadership qualities and most of all they will not have the human qualities that one would like a human to possess. They could of course, live as obedient sheep to serve the Lee Kuan Yew family but as human beings anywhere else in the world, they would be complete flops.

That is why Gopalan Nair is a far superior human being than the vast majority of Singaporeans who live their timid lives. Dr. Chee Soon Juan and the handful of human rights activists with him too are the exception because unlike the vast majority of Singaporeans they have integrity and courage, qualities that one admires in a human being.

You know I have been regularly telling Singaporeans to rise up and protest these injustices in Singapore in Singapore Dissident. As an example of the Singaporean mentality, let me tell you that I had numerous letters asking me to come back to Singapore to lead them! Any other person from any other country would not have asked me to do that; since they can protest by themselves if they want and they surely don't need me. A Singaporean it appears, is incapable of doing anything unless he is led!

Another example of the Singaporean is this. They say that I only dare to write criticism of Singapore from abroad; but I wouldn't dare to do it there. Yes, it is true because I would be imprisoned by Lee Kuan Yew if I did. However as for them from within Singapore, they prefer to do nothing at all except to challenge me to return, something which I am banned from doing anyway by the Singapore government.

And what is the best example of their mentality is they say all these things hiding under false pretences! Not a single Singaporean is prepared to identify himself in their letters!

Therefore for your own good and that of your families, if you can get out of the place, you should do it. Make your home in a free country where your children can walk tall as human beings, not having to hide from some bully like Lee Kuan Yew. Your children would appreciate you for giving them their new found freedom and you too would realize that you are a much freer human being with a voice, with courage and with integrity to do the right thing.

THREE Chinese youths aged between 17 and 18 years have been arrested for posting racist remarks on 'Facebook', a popular social networking website.

Following a report lodged on Jan 30, police conducted extensive enquiries and managed to establish the identity of the suspects. All three were arrested on Jan and have since been released on bail. Investigations are on-going, said police in a statement on Wednesday night.

Under the Sedition Act, anyone found guilty of promoting feelings of ill-will and hostility between different races or classes of the population of Singapore can be fined up to $5,000 or jailed up to three years, or both, if convicted.

Commander of Bedok Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police, Teo Chun Ching said: 'Police take a very stern view of acts that could threaten the social harmony in Singapore. The Internet may be a convenient medium to express one's views but members of the public should bear in mind that they are no less accountable for their actions online.'

In my four years on the island I've never never not even once heard a spontaneous laughter coming from Singaporean even in places where laughter are to be expected such as campuss canteens or corridors full of young [supposedly] passionate about life students.

You can be sure if you heard spontaneous laughter it was either coming from Indonesians, Indians, or Malaysians.

Young people of Singapore why are you not happy...

I beg to differ. I am a Singaporean and I think that is article is rather exaggerated. I have seen Singaporeans do a lot of things which you say we don't do. I think you should visit the heartlands and experience the Singaporean lifestyle. Sometimes, it's best to keep out of the city and stay in the heartlands. Maybe then, you'll change your impression of Singapore and Singaporeans.

As for the law, I think it's great that Singapore has that many laws. As long as you don't do illegal things, you'll feel that you are VERY safe! That is something which you won't be able to have in some other countries.

Racism in Singapore is taken very seriously. If anyone says something offensive about another race/religion, it may spark riots and cause terrible damage. Riots have not happened for the last few decades and I believe it's attributed to the fact that racism is strictly banned in Singapore.

Since Singapore is very much an Asian country, most Singaporean parents believe that education is very important in their children. Thus, the government will ensure that the Singaporean education system is good enough for our "Kiasu" parents. Although some students may feel stressed out and face depression or some sort of mental wear and tear, majority of Singaporean students know how to manage their stress well and in the end, they can thank the government for providing such great education where it is unavailable in some countries. In Singapore, without education, you will never succeed and will have to depend on others to survive. But this will never happen because the government ensures that EVERY single child in Singapore has at least 10 years of formal education.

As a Singaporean and a Singaporean student, I feel that Singapore is quite a nice place to be where you feel safe, even economically safe. You can never feel afraid that you will not have a place to go as the government provides many avenues for low-income or less-privileged families to seek help.

Having said that, I hope all of you will have a significantly different impression of Singapore and not severely criticise my fellow Singaporeans and government. I believe Singapore is a beautiful and wonderful place to live, work and play in.

Milton,
You are either trying too hard to defend the Lee Kuan Yew fascist regime or you don't know what just laws and unjust laws are.

For your information, the Singapore government is a fraud. Elections are not free and fair and only Lee Kuan Yew supporters win. Thus the people's will is not represented in Parliament.

Second, this unrepresented government makes any laws they want, since it is a one party state.

Third the freedoms that you are entiled to are denied. Newspapers are not free, they are controlled by the government. Free speech is denied you becasue you will be jailed if you criticized.

It seems to me, you are a student who has been brainwashed with complete nonsense. I am sorry for you but you have to help yourself by speaking to others about it and reading further. I am sorry I cannot help you. If that is what you want to believe, you have only yourself to blame.

All I have to say is, look at Singapore. Is it flourishing? Yes. Is it one of the leading countries in Asia? Yes. Is it an economic power? Yes. Is it peaceful, safe, and riot-free? Yes. Even if what you said is true, the fact is, Singapore still is a brilliant, incredible country.

Unknown said...

I agree 100%. I visited there as a tourist and realized how oppressive it was. It felt like China with a much cleaner and prettier veil to cover their dark side.

As the anon above me said, is it flourishing or riot free? Perhaps, but so is China, and that isn't exactly an Eden either. As for safe? No. I've seen Singapore gangs, school fights, and small crimes. The biggest criminal or war monger is the Government itself. They silence those who speak out against them.

Hell, Singapore a "Flourishing Country" could not even hold a single Mainstream terrorist in their prison who escaped not only through a bathroom window, but out of the Country as well.

I could not agree more myself.

As a 16 year old, I feel the oppression that PAP so forcefully enforce upon Singaporeans.
I think Milton has been brainwashed as he/she was too dumb (like most Singaporeans) to realize that they are being taken advantaged of. He/She is probably still a student that wants to showcase this linguistic skills. Tsk tsk. How foolish. More so if he/she is an adult.

Kiasu parents only are a result of Singapore Government's cut-throat education system. Parents are left with no choice but to hire MANY tutors due to the sucky teachers that don't know how to teach. They even have the cheek to promote "Teach less, Learn more". This stupid policy should be shoved up their ***.

PAP take our CPF money to do investments for their own gain. The pathetic interests they offer can be beaten by better investment options. Plus, there is no stupid 65 year old age requirement or limited funds that are allowed to the withdrawn thereafter.

PAP so happily overpay themselves. How many people under the age of 30 can say they earn 15K a month? They happen to find Stupid Bi*** TPL deserving of her 15K income despite violating polling day regulations. They breeched the rules and regulations they themselves put up! What hypocrisy!

PAP obviously think foreigners are superior as they let them (i.e. foreigners) to come and take advantage of our land, using housing as investments when they should be used as homes for people, new couples especially. As a result, housing prices have skyrockets through the roof, making it nigh impossible to ever purchase a house without drowning themselves in debt. Foreigners, foreigners, foreigners! We have been downgraded to 2nd class citizens in our country, I would rather suffer this kind of treatment elsewhere in the world than in my own country.

I too wish to become a lawyer one day and leave this god-forsaken place lest the opposition has a fighting chance. Hell, maybe I will join the opposition and put an end to the reign of "terror".

This is the only thing I have to say right now. As a Canadian,
Singaporean, the freedom we are given right here in canada is one
of the reason why Singapore has lesser hopes for people. I swear,
the moment I left Singapore, I was like " Thank God for giving us an escape route ". I'm serious,
this country is like Hitler no.2. Freaking propagandas and busy streets that can't even give the people the freedom. IT'S THE
FREEDOM! YOU PEOPLE IN SINGAPORE DON'T KNOW FREEDOM. Sure, you have the education and all. But you
spent your WHOLE ENTIRE Freaking life study and gaining a degree. If I ask ANY singaporean people what fun is, i swear they wouldn't know. If you think it's a safe place? By God Bless your soul because that's the last country you want to be in.
here's something that you guys don't even want to know about Singapore.
Since young, I realize something. The national athem song.
"bleh bleh bleh bleh, to built a democratic society" ?!?!?! where's the democratic society??
"Base on justic and equality" WHERE THE HELL IS THE JUSTICE AND EQUALITY?!?!?
"So to achieve, happiness" .............................What happiness?
I FREAKING STUDIED THERE FOR 6 YEARS AND I FAILED EVERYTHING AND
WHAT DO I GET? ASS WHIPING FROM MY PARENTS BECAUSE OF YOUR FAILURE OF
TEACHING US! YOU GUYS CAN'T EVEN GIVE US WHAT WE LOVE. ALWAYS
STUDYING AND GIVING US HOMEWORK. LOOK AT YOUR PLEDGE!! ARE YOU FOLLOWING IT>?!?!?!?!?!

I have graduated from NUS and have been working in this sucking island for more than two years. I mean I have to or else I would have escaped 6 months back to a better world. It's a place where classmates don't/ can't communicate with each other, neighbors don't/ can't talk to neighbors and most importantly people don't understand people. It's not unlikely that Singapore has been voted as the most emotionless country in the world. I am using '/can't' beacuse these situations arise sometimes due to mindset of people here and sometimes due to language problem. The entire society has been consumed by fear and oppression. Any singaporean can hardly speak or oppose anything. People are robots controlled with a remote held by the oppressive rulers. And living in such a society, you call yourself a modern and democratic country!!!! :O :O I admit that education here is good and life is somewhat comfortable but what good does it serve without peace and smile on your face!!

Mr Nair, in RETROSPECT, leaving Singapore was the BEST CHOICE of my life. I was the happiest in Canada which became my temporary adopted country, and although I am moving again elsewhere next year (out of another country where I am working and living in the NE Asia region--no China, please! Ewwwww), I can totally identify with what you said. I was not automated unlike in Singapore, felt easier, and also, knew people who were more genuine to themselves and others. This is something which even Singaporeans, for all their love of money, CANNOT BUY.

I left Singapore not long after my National Service & have never looked back. Not just due to the fact of Reservist obligations but from the totally ridiculous bullshit the Bloody Tyrant of the Government feeds us time & again! They are "Devils Citing Scriptures from the Bible For Their Own Purpose!"
Stupid, Ignorant & Complacent with no mindset of their own like Milton would be comfortable in an environment like that!
Now the world is my stage, my home & playground! I speak 7 world languages & cannot fathom for the Life of me why I would ever want to return to Singapore!?!
Singapore will always be the birthplace of all my nightmares & self-loathing! The world has always & will always be where all my self-realisation, dreams & freedoms come true!

Milton! Wake up & smell the coffee! Your perception that Singapore is a safe & righteous country is nothing but just a figment of your imaginations! Like a hermit in a well, your world evolves around being told when to eat, shit & sleep (concept)! Japan is a much safer country than Singapore & yet you failed to mention it because your Ignorance is Bliss! If I put you now in Germany, you won't last 48 hours! Grow up & stop being spoon fed craps from the government! What you assume living is safety is on the contrary, living in fear! Which of course; you mistook for safety!

I am Singaporean but I really do not like it here anymore. It is depressing to see so many people living without spontaneity, so many people getting stuck in the rat race. It's like living without a soul and purpose. I don't see genuinely happy people who feel socially and spiritually connected. It's stressful to be living without real freedom. We live within boundaries here physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. I'm afraid to express myself in fear of being nailed or blacklisted. It's the silent oppression that many feel but do not dare to speak publicly about. only the aware will see right through the smokescreen and plan alternate routes. The rest will continue to live like zombies who try to work hard, try to get ahead, only to die one day without realizing their dreams nor true purpose of being.

Lucas, I realized that the moment President Ong Teng Cheong passed away! How exactly did he die? I live it to your own intellectual conclusion! As the old saying goes: "Dead Man Tell No Tales!"
I packed up & left Singapore & have never looked back since!
Good Luck to you & all those stupid & ignorant Singaporeans!

I am disappointed with all the ppl making such comments about singapore. All I can say for such ppl is that they do not know the real world, they have not been reading up about the diff issues in the world and in singapore. Let me juz post to u guys one question....tell me.... Which government in the world is perfect????....the answer is obviously none. You want a 100% democratic country? Sure go to America and see how the opposition keeps getting in the way. In singapore, it has alr been stated by the opposition part themselves tat they do not want to be responsible in ruling singapore, they r juz there because they want to check on PAP and to oppose their ideas for the sake of it. Also, tell me, which country is 100% safe??? Yes there r some fights in singapore but these r juz minor issues compared to those of other countries. If mr lee kuan yew didn't make a good judgement call to separate from Malaysia, singapore would not achieve what is has become. To those who really hate the government in singapore, srsly, juz go to Malaysia for a month and u will understand the difference. Try it. I dare u. The situation there is getting worse than ever, no where Is safe, even in the premises of their own homes IN BROAD DAYLIGHT. And why so many foreigners would want to come to singapore? Because it rocks! To those ppl tat still despite mr lee, I understand tat u r juz jealous of his achievements because u r no where near his capabilities. So juz plz, nobody will say tat u r dumb if u dun talk such bullshit.

You are extremely perceptive and intellectual. My advice to you is leave Singapore A.S.A.P., don't need to plan first just leave and don't ever return lest the government try to pin a charge on you like what they are doing to me now!
The Singapore Police can do whatever they want including violating your civil rights and jurisdiction. They just impounded my passport and I cannot return home to Japan now.

Unknown said...

I salute and envy you now. Don't make the fatal mistake of coming back to Singapore like I did!! Now the Fucking police has pinned a ridiculous charge on me and impounded my passport so I cannot return home to Japan for Christmas.
I am grief stricken here. Begged them like a dog to let me return home to my family and job. No mercy nor compassion shown at all! The Investigating Officer just completely ignored me. Rather he told me that prison time would do me good?!! For God's sake, I am not a thief, cheat or a criminal at all! I hold a decent job in Japan, have wife and a son in university now!
They are such Bastards!!
